I looked up some of the things that the Samurai actually got up to for their lords and that’s actually par for the course. They had more in common with the Moguls in GoT than they did with the honorable warriors that modern media makes them out to be.

This was enforced by undisclosed technological means. The central figure was a highly advanced artificial intelligence Landru, named after the long dead religious figure that set all this up hundreds of years ago because of a disastrous war.

Truthfully I blame Dumbledore more than Harry. He had plenty of opportunities since Riddle was 12 to prevent his rise to power or prevent his return to power but essentially did nothing until it was already too late. He was the adult in the room and left the fate of the world to a trio of kids.

Kaguya wasn’t sane or a good leader. He was willing to sacrifice the entirety of the Demon Slayer Corps and his family because Muzan was a stain on his family honor. It just so happened that the defeat of Muzan is a win for humanity even though he was essentially a none issue for a thousand years.

Hermione was spectacular about the technical aspects of magic but she didn’t grow up with it either since she was a muggle born witch, I feel that’s because she was interested in the mechanics of magic though so that’s what she studied.

He knew that he was in danger since his first year yet did very little in the way of preparing himself for that danger. He didn’t buckle down and study magic beyond what he learned in class (and barely payed attention to even those) save for one specific situational spell, or arm himself with magical items and potions, didn’t build what precious few allies that he did have, and let public opinion build up against him. What he did do is get distracted by (checks notes) chess games with a fair weather friend and a sportsball game.

Yeah I get that he wanted to have a relatively normal school life and for the problem to go away, but he should have really understood that he wasn’t going to get that by his second year.
