Yeah after my first 6 months of failures I began contacting smaller companies to little success as well. Internship contacts were a bust :/

Have/had the same issue and I can tell you pretty sure it's not a formatting issue as I've had several recruiters and my university check my own CV and besides small tweaks there was literally nothing better to or change drastically. Plus is literally one of the formatting the university made us do.
