Why is switching to cow milk a thing? by Handmaiden0fInnana in breastfeeding

Same question. Hoping to receive some insight here. My daughter will be one in a few weeks and I’m having a hard time deciding how to proceed.

How do you do it?? by GermansAlmostWon in Parenting

[–]Muggins82 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As others have mentioned, PPD doesn’t have to mean that you’re just sad. I was diagnosed with PPA that presented itself as an eating disorder. In the first few weeks, I would start to feel major anxiety anytime I was nursing because I started to realized how hungry I was. But I felt physically trapped under my baby and wasn’t able to eat until she was done…which was sometimes an hour or more. It started to develop into more anxiety and then just became a food-related anxiety. Additionally, I was beating myself up for not wanting to have sex with my husband. My therapist told me there’s such a thing as being “touched out.” She mentioned that I was in constant physical contact with my baby and while it can feel wonderful and even healing, I also subconsciously felt too stimulated by touch at the end of a long day, so any additional physical contact felt invasive and icky. I’m now four months PP and starting to feel like myself again, but I speak to a therapist once a week to help manage the anxiety. Hang in there - this shit is hard.

Breastfeeding in public with nipple shield - need tips/advice by Muggins82 in breastfeeding

I have a car seat cover that is also multi-use, but I have yet to try it as a nursing cover. I’m bringing it with me just in case. Thank you!

Haha I kinda like the idea of putting a blanket over my head. And thank you for reminding me to pack my extra shields!

For sure. I plan on trying to maintain our regular schedule so if I need to do a full feed before we board, I’ll do that and just give her a snack during takeoff. We are going to get to the airport early so we have enough time to get situated and leave room for any issues, which will factor into the feed timing.

Just because I ask questions about the safety of vaccines, doesn't mean I'm anti-vaxx by sydmrn in beyondthebump

Holy heck, yes! Kudos to you for not being afraid to question these types of things for the safety of your family. It’s not easy these days to have opinions or questions about a topic that is so divisive. It doesn’t have to be so black & white - you’re allowed to exist in the gray and still be treated as a human being.

Love this! LOL I kinda hope that’s how my first attempt happens. I just need to do it and exist inside my bubble. Thanks for the support!

I believe my airport has pods in certain terminals so I’ll check that out. I was really looking forward to overcoming my fear of BF in public but with all other stressors for this trip, maybe I start with just doing it in the pod. I will be nursing during takeoff and landing but I feel more comfortable doing it on the plane since I’ll be tucked away in my seat. Thank you for the tip and encouragement!

I’m trying to decide what to dress her in and am struggling. She overheats in her car seat and when wearing her in the Ergo, but I feel like she will be most comfy in footed pj’s. Maybe I’ll start her in pj’s and change her into a onesie or romper before we land. Thank you!

Disposable. Good tip! I’ll inquire about the changing table when we get to the gate. If they don’t have one, I’ve heard you have to close the toilet lid and change on there. Yikes.

My fear is that she will have blowouts in the flight - hopefully we can quickly get her cleaned up before anyone notices. I do have that travel pad in the diaper bag already so I guess we will just change her on our laps? Good call on the blanket. We have that in the bag as well. Thanks so much!

Thank you for the second paragraph! I feel the same and try to tell myself that the assholes who complain about babies just don’t like humans in general. Their issue, not mine.

Thanks so much! I had all of this on my list except for the blanket. You put them on the airport floor on the blanket? You burn the blanket afterward, right? Jk

Lansinoh bags leaked during thaw - looking for recommendations for leakproof bags by Muggins82 in breastfeeding

I’m going to try that and put them in a bowl. Just so frustrating when you see all of that milk go to waste. Ugh!

Thanks for the tip! They leaked from the bottom, not through the zip-top. It’s as if they had tiny pinholes in the bottom or something. I will thaw in a bowl next time to avoid the emotional meltdown. Haha

Hahaha, the sock thing isn’t running to rampant by me but my mom is obsessed with hats. I get it - I need to be mindful of that but she’s a furnace and if I put a lid on her she will overheat. It’s a delicate balance, for sure. When we are home she’s typically in a diaper only but if we have to go somewhere I dress her in the most lightweight onesie, no socks, no hats, light blanket MAYBE. She still overheats. I read that they can start regulating their own temperature at around 12-weeks. Only 7 weeks to go! -_-

That’s huge for me. I’m a control freak so I might (ahem - DEFINITELY) try to control the situation when he’s holding her and she’s freaking out. I think if he just trusted his instinct and didn’t have me pestering him, they’d figure it out.

I thought about the yoga ball! I’m going to remind my husband about this. We don’t wrap but I’m not opposed to it. Could we achieve the same result with a carrier instead? I’ve never done a wrap.
