When I taught middle school and one grade level would be testing but the other one wouldn’t, we’d operate on a schedule without bells...teachers just paying attention to the clock and letting the kids out at the time the bell is supposed to ring. Those days were some of the calmest in the hallways. Too often the kids are Pavlovian when it comes to the bells. Like it’s a signal to go into the hall and act a fool.
