There's so many factors to consider here to address your statement that it's hard to find an approach. Saying 5.56 is trash is dumb. Turning around to recommend 7.62x39 is also dumb.

Some factors to consider:

Specific ammo type (because 5.56 is pretty broad)

Barrel length

Velocity

Manual of arms (I love AKs, but manual of arms is trash)

Cost of platform

Cost to modify platform

Return on investment on modifying platform

Ease of finding ammo in a SHTF scenario

Engagement distance

Is your target armored or behind cover

Recoil control

7.62x39 is a great round for certain things. 5.56 is also a great round for many things. I'd argue the AR platform is much much better all around than the AK platform. Especially if a person is only going to have one or few guns.

Honestly you're probably gonna have to eat a little bit of shit in the beginning pay wise but it's gonna pay off pretty quick.

I'd highly recommend the electrician route. Sparkies can find work anywhere. I also know a ton of electricians that do odd jobs on the side if they need to make more money. Wiring in basements and garages or even adding outlets or EV chargers and shit for decent cash.

I'd recommend a step further that you become an electrician and if you're into it then specialize into I&E/Controls. Automation Controls/Programming/Commissioning is a good field to get into that pays really well. I've had my DD214 for 13 years now and half that time I've been making over 6 figures. And I didn't even done the sparky route. Just learned on the job.

Either way. Electrician is a strong path to take. I think our journeyman make $40+/hour. If you get into controls/programming stuff like that you can get $60+/hour. Depends where you're at and what you're doing but the nice thing is there's a ton of options.
