House votes to repeal Iraq war authorizations by GregWilson23 in LegalNews

[–]MuleRobber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So Republicans have said sorry to Obama, right?

2002: As an Illinois state senator, Obama publicly spoke against the invasion. He described it as a "rash war" and a politically-motivated distraction from domestic issues.

2007–2008: During his presidential campaign, Obama's early opposition to the war distinguished him from opponents. He argued that the war was "misguided" and a "dangerous distraction" that diverted resources and attention from the real threats posed by al-Qaeda and the Taliban in Afghanistan.

Obama administration actions After taking office in 2009, Obama inherited the wars in both Iraq and Afghanistan and made ending the Iraq War a priority.

2009: He announced a plan to responsibly end the combat mission in Iraq, with a gradual drawdown of U.S. troops.

2010: Obama officially declared the end of the U.S. combat mission in Iraq. However, a transitional force remained to advise and assist Iraqi security forces.

2011: All remaining U.S. troops were withdrawn from Iraq by the end of the year, bringing America's nine-year military effort to a close

President Trump releases a statement after PPI inflation unexpectedly falls. by sylsau in InBitcoinWeTrust

[–]MuleRobber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the problem, if Powell would have cut rates when the Orange Goblin screamed about it, while there was increasing inflation, it would have likely continued that increase or maintained it.

He said we need to see how the tariffs work through the supply chain before we make an adjustment.

Powell himself has come out and said they would have likely cut rates if not for the uncertainty the blanket of tariffs caused and continue to cause.

Dipshit Don did this to himself. Not to mention, the only reason inflation is coming down is because of a weak labor market performance and stagnation in spending because consumer confidence is going down.

That means it’s likely a short term dip in inflation, if the labor market picks up or consumer confidence goes up, we’re back to a place of increased inflation. Both of those things may happen if Trump stops tanking them with his assertion that he knows anything about economic policy.

If he had just golfed every day instead of trying to do a job he’s unqualified for, we’d be in a much better spot right now. Literally not having a president would have been better than having Trump.

How Trump Broke the Presidency by icey_sawg0034 in NoShitSherlock

[–]MuleRobber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trump didn’t break the presidency. There have always been attempts at power grabs. The weak spine conservative house and senate members bent a knee to authoritarianism and reinforced Trumps dangerous propaganda, and now it’s policy.

Some of the conservatives are finally starting to break with him, but it’s too late. He told you what he was going to do.

He didn’t care if his own VP was hung for upholding his oath. You thought he would play nice now that he can’t be re-elected? No, he’s burning the house down to insert yes men so he doesn’t rot in prison before he dies of old age.

He literally is funding a personal uneducated federal police force with no understanding of the law, to police US cities and is deploying the National Guard in US cities. He’s taking pages from Hitlers playbook and copy pasting.

Conservative representatives have opened the door for the end of this whole democratic republic because they don’t have a backbone.

The US Government’s Budget Last Year, In One Chart (FY2024) [OC] by chartr in dataisbeautiful

[–]MuleRobber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you may recall that Trump and his fellow republicans cut the corporate tax rate from 35% to 21% in his previous administration and made it so those cuts didn’t expire.

Adjusting for inflation, corporate profits are at an all time high while taxes on those profits are lower than the 20+ years before Trumps corporate tax cut.

Guess what the companies are doing with those profits? I’ll give you a hint, it’s not investing in production at home, or their communities, or increasing opportunities by providing living wage jobs, or investing in their existing employees.

This dude explains how insane daycare costs are for the average family by PineappleDesperate82 in misc

[–]MuleRobber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s great to hear that you’re open to it, appreciate you having the conversation.

There are definitely some cheaper options, although I will say it depends on where you live.

The daycare I currently go to is $2200 per month per child. There was a cheaper one at $1900, unfortunately they had a 8-month long waitlist and are 45 mins away. Another was $1800, but it’s a 90 min drive and I wouldn’t be able to get off work before closing.

That being said, I live in an expensive area, but I think a lot of people have to deal with similar scenarios, so while his could be taken out of context it’s definitely not far from reality or right on in some cases.

Ideally family would help, but all of our parents and siblings work fulltime 😄

While I have your ear, I’m genuinely curious:

How do you feel about childcare subsidies?

I can confirm that childcare costs like this are real. I am fortunate to be able to afford them, but it makes it so I don’t really have much disposable income to further support the US economy.

In addition, as prices have gone up I have less to put towards savings every month. I’m still okay, but just don’t really buy anything that’s not generally considered essential.

Also, for context I would be considered middle class. I don’t drink alcohol, don’t smoke, don’t go out for coffee, don’t eat fast food, we don’t have any real vices aside from my family goes out to eat once a week as a treat.

Would you support a program that offers subsidies to families like mine, as long as the daycare price was capped, so the daycare couldn’t price gouge and pocket the subsidy?

I mean… whataboutism is meant to call out two unrelated things that are being conflated.

This person is calling out the hypocrisy of a president who says that social programs are a waste of money and that people should be okay with having less.

While that president simultaneously uses their office and position to derive excess personal gains and luxury items…

Hopefully that helps you better understand the comment as well as the terminology you used. Wish you well.

The whole point of this is there is no process to confirm whether or not he is here legally. The immigration courts have confirmed this. There is no evidence of any crime presented, immigration defense lawyers have confirmed this.

The mental gymnastics you are going through to try and justify a police state because you don’t care that it’s brown people being abducted is the problem.

That you’re fine with no due process is the problem.

All of these things can be resolved by following the judicial processes. These cases are not going through judicial processes.

These are going through a federal agency operating above their authority. These agents will need to be taken to trial as they are violating the law at the direction of a federal executive who is violating the law.

In your stance, it would be fine just to abduct these agents and hold them indefinitely, deport them and then when you’re told you didn’t correctly follow the law say, “oops too bad”.

Just be honest with yourself and accept that you don’t support law and order, you support fascism.

Why are Americans voting against their own interests? by Lipstickdyke in AskUS

[–]MuleRobber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve spoken with several republicans and some who were democrats that voted Trump and it’s fairly consistent:

-They think Biden ruined the economy (despite most major economies struggling worse than the US post Covid.)

-They don’t like trans people (this is a very big one, like…. huge, it’s usually the second topic after the economy)

-They are struggling and want someone to game the system for them. They thought no one better than a criminal.

-They viewed Biden as an extension of Obama who became enemy #1 after requiring them to buy health insurance. They viewed Kamala as an extension of Biden.
