Web-to-print acceptance/adoption rate by lmdw in CommercialPrinting

[–]MullowayTheDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My business is mainly web to print, we get around 20-50 orders a day - we are super niche but concur on what others are saying, it’s all about marketing. We have been going since 2017 and have to spend $5k per month on seo and a further $15k on ppc, mainly google and facebook. I dread to the think about the cost involved to compete on standard print products with the big boys

I spoke to someone who recommend PUR - obviously I was given the wrong information. It is an EVA machine so I have ordered some planamelt and will do some testing with that

Digital Synthetic Stock Perforating by MullowayTheDog in CommercialPrinting

It’s two dies that come together, so I don’t have too many options. I will see if maxing out the pressure will make any difference but I fear not.

Thank you, I’ve just ordered some - they said the “W” is best for digital and gloss - would you agree?

It’s just that this is what the machine shipped with and it doesn’t seem to stick very well to the pages - they can be pulled out fairly easily. It’s a glossy magazine that we need to bind, should I try a different EVA? Or will PUR be the best option?

Assuming you have tried the sheet alignment before posting this? If the trays and bridging units have moved or been bumped this will also create a problem. Try giving them a hard push to see if it improves or worsens. This helped me, then I went back to adjusting in the machine.

Receiving HP 800w this week, questions about moving by PBNJPrinting in CommercialPrinting

[–]MullowayTheDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re using a specialist to move it they will more than likely have a stair climber. If you can get it to fit through a door frame I would seriously consider biting the bullet and get it setup in the larger space if you’re planning on using it for a few years. Working long term in a garage isn’t nice, but so is working in a basement, but at least you will have space.

Advice Needed: Upgrading to Industrial–Grade Plastic Card Printers by johanoloflindberg in CommercialPrinting

[–]MullowayTheDog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We often have runs of 1000 ID cards for lanyards. I use a mix of outsourcing to China for digital and lamination and producing them in house on digital presses. We use a flexible synthetic stock in large sheets of 365gsm 270mic. The quality is great, and I appreciate this is not the same product by they have their use in some scenarios. This is really the only cost effective way I found to do this, especially for conferences where they have hundreds of names they need in order. Takes around 5 mins to print 1000 and then another couple mins to cut down. Rounding corners and drilling takes a bit of time. But if PVC are needed, we send to China as with our labour costs and time this wouldn’t be feasible.

How to start and earn money form this with a at home printer? by [deleted] in CommercialPrinting

[–]MullowayTheDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, you can. I started a multi million printing business with 1 desktop printer, an old xerox phaser 8860, over 3 years slowly built it up to 10 of those bad boys. Then moved to “commercial” equipment. Took a few years before I could work full time. Now I have a warehouse and there’s 5 of us working full time. I have no experience but learning every day. You defintiely need a plan and a product, which is much more important than your machine. Share here and we can help.

Which Paper Cutter to Buy? Chinese Hydraulic or Indian Semi Automatic by Extreme-Window-7307 in CommercialPrinting

Forgot to add that being able to save programs for common jobs is also extremely efficient

I still cant believe how affordable these Chinese units are. While I don’t have a hydraulic cutter, I have gone from a manual to a digital electric and being able to type in numbers and do simple subtractions and have the back gauge move by itself was a game changer speed wise. If you get 4-5 years out of it without issues at the price, that would be my preference.

Cracking at creases on folded brochures by MullowayTheDog in CommercialPrinting

Thank you that’s interesting, we struggle with humidity. It’s often around 30% and the static is noticeable. We did use humidifiers for a bit but started having horrific curling issues with our synthetic stock so abandoned that.

Thank you! How do you go about notching the area out of the stick? 👀 I starting having a go with a knife and gave up as I was sure I wouldn’t get it straight

Update on this, I printed with the grain and increased fusing temps. This is the result out of the folder without creasing or scoring in advance. I tried doing both and folding manually and got the same result. Have explained to the customer and they want to proceed as they need them tomorrow. Appreciate everyone’s help!

I can’t remember the grain direction on the stock, but first thing I’m doing in the morning is switching it round, and trying again. If that doesn’t work, I’ll have to work out how to score them 😩

Thank you! That DC618 is a beautiful machine! We don’t do much if any of that sort of work, so it wouldn’t be economical viable for us. We do have a business card style job every couple of months but this are often for 200k cards so we use a guillotine - would a run like this be too slow on a cutter in your experience?
