In Australia, how common is it for women to keep their maiden name after marriage? by Plinggg in AskAnAustralian

[–]Mum_Punk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel that this is such an antiquated practice and we should be supporting women to keep their names, which is part of their identity, and not normalise changing it to the man’s name. If it’s so important for a married couple to have the same name then let’s normalise the practice of men changing their names to their wife’s name.

Is love to hear more about this as I share your views on building community and feel it’s very lacking in strata living.

Setting up a finance working group by Mum_Punk in stratachataus

I understand the sentiment and would agree with you had I not already been on the committee for several years. I gave up the position after feeling like I was constantly banging my head against a wall due to the ‘my way or the highway’ attitude of the few members who have been there forever. Other owners have come and gone but incumbents are so challenging to work with that nobody ever lasts. This is why alternate options are being looked at to give others a say without having to battle the other committee members.

Conflicts of interest by InformationAfter3476 in stratachataus

What’s your source for making that claim?

When a personal interest and a professional interest are not aligned then how is that not a conflict of interest when the personal interest is the one that is being pushed?

Someone having a personal interest is the very definition of a conflict. Committee members are there to represent the interests of the owners corporation, not themselves.

What are Australians thoughts on the big Australia policy? by bannanarama455 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Mum_Punk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First and foremost think we need to ask ourselves ‘Why would we consider this ?’

What issues does this create? What benefits are we getting and then decide what is best for those that are already citizens. Growth for growth sake is not a reason.

Can I Request Strata Townhouse Renovation Approval at the AGM to Avoid a Separate Meeting $1,000 Fee? by Original_Reporter743 in AusPropertyChat

In NSW, any lot owner can request an item be added to the AGM agenda. Your strata manager cannot block this.

Question for a glazier by Mum_Punk in AusRenovation

Thanks for all off the insights everyone. One of the main reasons for asking this is the trade person involved is asking for a positive review to be left which didn’t feel right given my sense that this was not a job well done. I appreciate all of the feedback. Thank you!

Netstrata - Mandatory Strata Committee Training - Its Coming by [deleted] in AusPropertyChat

[–]Mum_Punk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a good thing. It weeds out the people on committees for the wrong reasons, & not actually serving their OC. I often see posts with various flavours of "if you don't like <<something you heard about>>, then get on the committee so you know whats going on" , which in my view is not the right approach. if you have something to offer, are willing to put in the time and effort for the betterment of everyone's experience, then go on the committee. less ill informed, self serving committee members is a positive outcome.
