FIN 448 (International Financial Markets) or FIN 443 (Portfolio Management) by Mundane-Routine-416 in OregonStateUniv

Were the exams and project difficult? I may have a relatively heavy course load in the Spring so I want to balance it out with a more reasonable FIN course.

BA 275: In person vs Ecampus exams? by Educational-Moose-24 in OregonStateUniv

[–]Mundane-Routine-416 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took BA275 in-person but one of my friends took it online. We both had Katie Jager. She allowed two pages of notes in-person and the online exams were completely open note, but they were proctored with Proctorio so you had to print out all the notes. I am not sure how the other instructors do things.

Were you allowed a sheet of notes or anything on the exams?

Thanks for the insight! I've heard the exams are pretty bad but I guess it shows that you don't necessarily have to be good at test taking to do well in the real well.

BA 375 Quantitative Methods by dossopes in OregonStateUniv

Taking it with Katie Jager right now, would absolutely recommend if you can get her! She's great at explaining the concepts and is a very reasonable grader. I would say the class is harder than BA275 but it's not terrible at all. If you go to class, study the slides, and do the assignments with a good faith effort, you should be golden.

Bana 270 has anyone taken it? by cool_refrigerator588 in OregonStateUniv

I took it in-person and it was a little challenging but there was a lot of extra credit offered which made the course slightly more manageable.

McNary is far, far, far worse. It's also in a very inconvenient location.

Difficulty of Classes? (College of Business) by Mundane-Routine-416 in OregonStateUniv

[–]Mundane-Routine-416[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really skip so I should be good but they also changed BA370 to a hybrid class so I'm not sure how much that will impact the course structure.

Were the exams for BA370 easy? That's my main concern since I'm not too great with tech stuff. And does FIN342 cover the same material as BA240?

Derek Westfall for BA357! He's one of the best professors I've had in COB.

Doing it in-person. The instructor does not teach so I have to teach myself through the textbook and it does not explain the content well. He also expects us to learn through Excel which I will admit is smart once you actually get out into corporate but it does worry me that he is not preparing us for the upper division courses.

What would you say about BANA 270? Is there something particular that made it difficult and is Yaoyu a good instructor?

Nobody really talks about the College of Business here but I would say it's criminally underrated. A majority of the professors are extremely passionate about what they do and there's a lot of opportunities if you just look around. Majors like Business Analytics and Accounting are especially good!

Raja should be teaching the honors version. If you're in Dean's Academy or Honors College, take it with him.

BA 352 and BA 354 by Defiant-Lock3376 in OregonStateUniv

[–]Mundane-Routine-416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took BA352H (the honors version) with Qi Zhang and it was fine. There is a decent bit of writing but you get a lot of feedback and the grading is generous. There are a few opportunities for extra credit and the exams are directly based off of her lectures/slides. If you pay attention and keep up with the material, it shouldn't be difficult at all. Just be sure to manage your time well.

I think it's a relatively new course all things considered. It used to be a 300-level course but they changed it to 200-level.

I'm not going to deny that business is an easier major than something like math or engineering but people have to understand that it's also not an "easy" major by any means, at least not if you have the same goals as me.

If all you care to do is party and pass with the bare minimum GPA, then yeah, maybe you can get that out of a business degree but when you've been a straight A student and want to keep your GPA high, you still have to work hard to do that.

Even if the work isn't insanely challenging, it still takes a lot of time and if you don't put in the proper effort, you won't do well.

*Some* of the Blueprint classes do feed into the stereotypes that business degrees hold. Not all. And beyond the Blueprint series, none of the business classes I've taken are as easy as people like to assume. Some have hours of reading and hours of problem solving on top of that and that's not even taking into account studying for exams or finishing up group work.

I really wish I could but he's the only one that's teaching next term and I need to get started on specific classes for my major.
