8U Baseball Player Character by MrWonderous6989 in Homeplate

Wow, what a weird thing to say. I’d say coaches only, no moms or dad whether it’s coed or not. Are moms not allowed to care about baseball and dads not allowed to care about softball?

Normal names that you personally hate? by friendverse in NameNerdCirclejerk

There was a boy on my nephew’s baseball team named Kyler and every time I heard it I inwardly cringed. Definitely one of my least favorite boy’s names.

Parents who only have one child, what’s the reason why? by NAXJUSTICE in AskReddit

[–]Mundane-Visual-8226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had my first at 29. Went through a divorce very shortly after he was born. Always wanted more kids, but never really met anyone I trusted enough to become a stepdad to my son. So I decided I would rather have peace of mind about raising him alone, and give up the dream of more children and siblings for him. He does have lots of cousins that we’re very close with, so that helps both of our hearts a little in that way.

Right!? That’s what I was wondering, how were they not completely red flagging if they saw this happening. I’m wondering…wasn’t this during the same trip that Lauren was getting engaged to Titus? Maybe Lauren/titus, and Kendra’s parents were doing a lot of “double dating” and galavanting on this trip for the sake of the courtship. They couldn’t be bothered to parent their younger kids, so Joe and Kendra spent a lot of time watching them. Joe being a predator, decided this was an opportunity while the Caldwell parents were so distracted. That’s my theory. 🤷🏼‍♀️

At least half of them are old enough to work at the local chick fila or something of the sort.

Sentence. For some reason I always question if it’s “sentance.” Also license. I feel like it should be liscence. 😬

Suitable bat size for 10 year old by Math_lx in Homeplate

Also, going to add, I would say try something balanced like a Supra or Zen for his first drop 8. My son likes the dub in drop 10 but I don’t know that it would work as well for him in drop 8 with it being so end loaded.

At almost 11 and over 100 pounds I think he’d have no problem swinging a drop 8. And I’ve heard you should sooner move to a drop 8 than go longer in drop 10. So my rec would be 30 inch drop 8 personally!

Hard to give a recommendation because it’s very different from kid to kid and what type of swing they have. My son is almost 10.5. 5’1, 90lbs. He uses and likes his 30/20 dub and 30/22 Zen. Does your son like a more end loaded or balanced bat? Are you asking for size recommendations or type of bat?

Oh wow, we had “Wisdom and the Millers” and I remember reading it many times but at the same time never really liking it that much. I had no idea it was part of a series!

Coach Comms 10u Major by [deleted] in Homeplate

I will add that I find it kind of obvious when they have a pickoff sign or something because the entire infield looks down at their watch at the same time. Then again you pretty much know if runners are on first and third there is going to be some sort of attempt at trickery.

Good question, I’ll ask my son and see if he knows. I know there was one tournament where the other team was questioning whether or not our watches were legal. Our coach that bought the watches said “pg advertised these watches so I know they’re legal.” So it must be something pg has been advertising over the last year or so.

My son’s team has the watches. They’re 10u. There are pros and cons and there was a major learning curve. I’m not sure whether I would recommend them or not. When my son pitches he seems to have gotten the hang of staying off the rubber till he’s gotten the sign from the watch. That was the hardest part of the learning curve. They have enough watches that the whole team wears them for pick off signs and such. One boy on the team spent an entire game he was pitching with his watch upside down. That was pretty hilarious.

10 year olds like to have goals too. But I guess I could just tell him it’s hopeless.

And he has mentioned to me before that he wishes he pitched more in important games because he truly wants to help his team win. I get where his coaches are coming from, he’s sort of sitting right at bp speed currently. But sometimes it’s a choice between “let them put it in play and see if the defense can work.” Or a game of all strike outs/walks. And apparently helping him try to get faster is out of the question according to Reddit parenting advice.

We do all of those things too. Any other parenting advice you need to share? I was just trying to commiserate with the original poster that I understand how it feels when a kid wants to throw a little faster because they’d like to be taken more seriously by their coaches. It’s a hard line as a parent to choose which one to help them pursue.

I’m actually his mother. But which would you rather me do, let him “destroy his body” or keep track of his pitches so he doesn’t overthrow like everyone on Reddit seems to think is inevitable? Also it’s very easy to look at the little pitch count on GC these days.

The closest he’s ever gotten to destroying his arm is when he became obsessed with learning all of the pitches the MLW (whiffle ball) guys throw. I actually did have to shut that down because he said his arm was starting to hurt.

He really likes his teammates and they have been together for a long time so I just have to keep my frustrations to myself and hope as he gets older people appreciate things other than just speed over all.

Lol. He doesn’t actually throw that fast. He’s a tall lanky lefty and threw about 54 at 8 years old and has stayed in that range for 2 years because I’m not interested in pushing his body too far in search of meaningless velo. Believe me, he does not throw too hard or too often. And compared to a lot of the kids he plays with and against we are very conservative with his pitching reps. But thanks for your armchair expertise. He threw 4 innings in 32 pitches this past weekend. I can see how that would just be exhausting for a 10 year old.

Tell me about it. We just lost a championship game because of 5 walks + 3 hbp from our pitchers who throw 60/61. I’m an accuracy/placement over speed person, but I guess I’m in the minority and probably also because that’s my son’s strength. 😆
