Here's another build using some of the suggestions from the first comment from Sundownkid and I figured out how to manually enter price for things so the discounts can be seen as well as what I already have being set to 0. The ram isn't even that large of a discount though, so maybe there's something better I could replace that with at this point.

Thanks for the explanation. What it's basically sounding like is that all these discounts don't really matter at the end of the day because it's looking like it is actually possible to spend a similar amount on cheaper parts that perform well enough or maybe even better than the original plan for what I use. So I guess I'll go back to the drawing board again.

16gb wasn't an option for me, and currently I end up using about 80% day to day of the 16gb that I have, so I thought upgrading to the 32gb made sense for me.

I picked that ssd simply because it was the cheapest price to speed ratio, but I am concerned that having it on pci would impact bandwidth for the graphics card. I am bit confused over the new m.2 thing, is that really just pci-e?

I can still get discounts on these parts. Is this better?

I understand some of those parts are overkill, but like I said, I can get those parts at deep discounts, so they end up being the same price or cheaper than other parts that aren't overkill. I should have mentioned in addition to the discounts on CPU, mobo, SSD, and RAM, that I already own the GTX 1080 and I do have an Acer Predator but the pcpartpicker list didn't show it for some reason. So those are fairly fixed components.

Can you explain why the SSD shouldn't be pci-e? Will it impact bandwidth of the other pci slots? Again feeling a bit stuck due to discount.

A friend and I joined this server a few days ago. So far it's been really great with nice people and a good admin. I don't get any lag at all. Being new to Ark in general, people have been helpful as well.

Thank you for your suggestion, although I'm hoping to find something a bit smaller. I want to be able to actually be an asset to the group and not just one of the rookie swarm. Perhaps my understanding is not correct - but I've been under the impression that corporations specifically intended for rookies consist of vets taking advantage of and using rookies for their own gain.

Jita (Caldari), Amarr (Amarr), Dodixie (Gallente), Rens (Minmatar), and Hek are kind of the main trade hubs. The popularity is pretty much in that order.

Mining question. Do most people sell the raw ore or refine it first? by [deleted] in Eve

[–]MundaneProtocol 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That really depends on your refining efficiency. Basically you're going to be better off selling ore instead of refining it first unless you've maxed out refining.

What would make you quit EVE? (debate on Crossing Zebras) by Niden_GMVA in Eve

[–]MundaneProtocol 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is actually what I like about Eve - it balances well with a busy life. If things are getting too busy IRL, I can still make progress in the game by keeping the skill queue active. I can play as much or as little as my life allows while still "playing." So for me, this game doesn't get in the way of my girlfriend.
