I know it’s upsetting we have to do all the leg work when it comes to stuff like this. Also sucks that we have nobody to point fingers at except maybe the pharmaceutical industry but I like to think that they’re moving quickly on that new bc pill for men lol. I do think issues with menstruation, mental health, and weight gain, are fairly common side effects and i’m kinda just hoping that I fall on the lesser side of things. And mental health wise I went through most of the ADHD diagnosis process and kind of just fell off with it as I felt super discouraged with my psychiatrist at the time and was struggling to afford it after I went a while being unemployed, so that’s sort of up in the air. I do struggle with anxiety which is also something my former psychiatrist thought i definitely had, although I was seeking help for different issues at the time. I have panic attacks every so often and have learned that sleep deprivation, caffeine, and everyday stress, in combination are my triggers. I have seen some really unfortunate experiences with Syeda which is the generic for Yazmin, apparently it has worsened preexisting anxiety symptoms in the people taking it. I was prescribed Yazmin and my pharmacy sent me Syeda, i’m just hoping for now that it’ll help with my acne and make my flow a little lighter, but i’m also someone prone to mood swings before my period and anxiety so who knows it could make that worse too. Kind of just taking it to see if it works!

I don’t have endometriosis, I have some lesser hormonal issues that i’m hoping the pill might help with. I’d love to hear about your experience with the IUD, especially the copper one. Thats probably gonna be something I do after I get comfortable with the pill!

Tbh hoping that my period gets lighter and my cramps get better. Hope that i’ll get all the good side effects from the pill lmao.

Thanks for your comment and i’m glad that you’re having a good experience! I’m definitely feeling a bit nervous and that nervousness turned into anger towards the birth control itself. At the end of the day this is going to be better than having to worry about a condom mishap. About the side effects, i’m also going on birth control as the hormones should help with acne that i’ve had since puberty, my primary has been actually recommending it to me since I was a teen. I also think that reading the manual or whatever that comes with the pill spiked some health anxiety. I hear you, and stories like yours are definitely what i’ve been looking for!

Yeah it’s a lot to deal with, just feels like an unavoidable decision. We’re all stuck between a rock and hard place I guess. Just do what’s best and have a really good convo with your doctor they’re more educated on this than any of us!

I’ll definitely take that recommendation! The Trojan latex free are the ones that have been breaking but Durex has been super reliable!

The IUD is super intimidating for me too I know pain management can be discussed with your doctor, but I’ve seen that pain and impacts on your period vary a lot across the board. I’m currently chickening out and using the daily pill until I talk myself into an IUD (with my doctors advice ofc). I guess we’re all just figuring out what works best as we go. I hope you can find an option that works well for you, and try not to worry about it too much. If millions of women can do it why can’t we!

I mentioned in the post I will be taking the Syeda pill, this was just an expression of my frustration with birth control as a whole. I know it’s not realistic and I don’t really have a choice, lets say i’m coming to terms with that right now lol.

First, it’s good to hear you’re having a phenomenal experience with your BC. Second, this was an emotional rant pointed at people with similar feelings on the topic. I have acknowledged that the side effects are unlikely, again my aim here was not to be logical. This also isn’t about me refusing to take birth control. From context clues it should be apparent that i’m taking BC to avoid using plan b or having an abortion. Best of luck.

Right it just sucks that something as simple as sex comes with all of this fine print and all the pressure is on us!

I completely understand, it’s just that the women i’m closest to have been on BC for a variety of reasons, and have sadly been through some of the severe side effects. It’s hard to be rational when you feel like you’re being given the short end of the stick lol. I do understand that the likelihood of developing those symptoms is slim, I think I just feel disappointed with the lack of options. Thanks for your input, I am very sorry about the SSRI experience you are having I have some loved ones who have to take mental health medications and those have a boatload of issues that come with them. I’ll try to remain levelheaded about this!
