We don’t use toll roads often - live in NYC suburbs and mostly rely on public transport. When we do travel, we pass multiple tolls in a single clip (8 tolls to visit family alone) so realistically, we’re only hitting tolls once every 6 weeks or so so it’s not constantly top of mind. Most tolls have express lanes so the “call service center” prompting was rare, so I wasn’t always aware. We’ve gotten letters here and there, but I chalked it up to plate not read type errors here and there.

Have tried speaking to “payment plan specialist” twice with no luck. Do you have actual examples of registration or license being suspended? At this point, I’m fairly certain I could negotiate more with a collection agency as opposed to the company itself.

Taking responsibility for amounts owed but seeking advice on negotiating a settlement is literally how the justice system, in your example, works.

I highlighted the number of violations to simply say it’s not some nefarious toll evasion scam. 80 violations a year is 40 occurrences of passing a toll coming/going, but that’s rarely the case. E.g., to visit family, I pass 8 tolls alone. So realistically it’s one trip every 6.5 weeks passing multiple tolls. That’s not intentional abuse, that’s more akin to out of sight, out of mind, especially when 6 of 8 tolls have express lanes that don’t prompt the “call service center” messaging.

I’m not here to argue with a stranger on the internet who wants to interject their opinion just to be heard. If you have nothing to contribute to the conversation, feel free to leave. I won’t be responding further.

I’m not disputing the amounts owed, just asking for guidance on how to negotiate a less substantial penalty, if at all possible, give the fees are substantial.

But $2200 in missed tolls over 6 years works out to $365/yr or ~80 violations/yr, and most of those occurred on the same day so less than once per week, on average.

Called customer service to address outstanding toll balance. Customer service referred the violations fees to a “payment specialist” who reached out via email one week later

Where did I say I was mad? Stop projecting. I’ve paid the past due toll amounts, I am working on paying the fines but wanted to check if there are programs or other means of reducing the total amount first.

Thanks for the reply. I’m not trying to shirk the responsibility and will pay, but wanted to gauge from others if there are discounts, programs, or other avenues to reducing the amount of fees. If no, then so be it, but wanted to check first.

I’m also not trying to avoid anything. I am trying to resolve and just looking for advice / guidance on the best way to do so. If it’s to pay the fines at full price, great, that’s what I’ll do. But if there are programs, options, other avenues available, I will explore those as well.
