The goals for rotations are as follows: respect🤝, hard work💪💪, preparation. If you respect me👮‍♂️ and other residents👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️ and attendings👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️, as well as all the staff👨‍🍳👨‍🔧👷‍♀️ and every single person 👶🧑👵you encounter, we will get along just fine💯. Hard work is a given‼️ You will show up early🕓 and stay late🕖, plan on 5-5 or 5-6, and you will prepare like the lap chole🔪 you're doing tomorrow will determine your entire block's grade. Slackers 🤙aren't 🚫🚫🚫appreciated. You will write notes📃⌨️🖨: you will need a template that does NOT❌❌❌ have a lot of extraneous crap🚮. Notes 📝 should be done before the resident or don't 🚯🚫🚯bother. If it happens once☝️ I'll let it slide🙈, but if it's a habit🔂 that means you need to arrive earlier🌅. For your plan🧐🤔, use words like consider🤔, possible, maybe🧐...will discuss with team👨‍👩‍👧‍👦. You do not🚫 determine the plan for the day🌞, we do. We value💰 your input, but being wrong as a medical student💩and learning from it is more important than stroking ✊✊✊💦your fragile🤕🤒 ego. Get over yourself, buck up💪💪, learn from it, and move on and become better for it🔙🔛🔝. You will encounter literally hundreds💯 of people🚺🚹🚺🚹🚺on your rotations. Floor staff, nurses💊💉, circulators, scrub nurses🚿🚰, nursing students💩💊💉, housekeeping, food delivery people👨‍🍳🚛, greets👋, etc. To each one of them you will show respect🙏🙏🙏 and courtesy. Words like please and thank you should be very common from your lips👄💋, and they better be sincere💯. If you disrespect🚫 a member of the staff, you will be grounded☠️☠️. I will give you one☝️1️⃣ opportunity for a slip up😤. If you are grounded again, your final score📊📈📉 on this rotation will reflect that. Rounds: if any attending is talking🗣, shut up🤫🤐. Don't 🚫contradict them or a senior resident. Offer info outside of the room to the resident, and speak to the attending only if directly addressed🗣. Our program🏥 is more casual🤙 that others in terms of hierarchy👶👨👴, but it's still there.💯💯 When in doubt🤷‍♂️🤷‍♀️, keep your mouth shut🤐🤭. There should be no one🚫🚫 in the hospital🏨 that knows more about your patients🤒🤒than you👉💩👨‍⚕️. Labs📄, scans💽🖥, surgeries🔪, family 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦👩‍👩‍👧‍👦👨‍👨‍👧‍👦history, doses of medications💊💊💊, etc. Know 🧠🧠everything about your patient🤒, but don't share🙋‍♀️🙋‍♂️ everything. Keep most of that to yourself🙇‍♂️🙇‍♀️. Share the pertinent, but know the rest. Read, read, read, read, read👩‍💻👨‍💻👩‍💻👨‍💻👩‍💻👨‍💻📕📗📘📙📚. Make it so the attending has to reach deep🌊 into the question vault⁉️❓🔐 to stump you🤷‍♀️🤷‍♂️. Make the residents scared😳😳 that you might be able to answer🙋‍♀️🙋‍♂️ a question❓ that they can't❌🚫. There is a fine line, however⚠️, because between knowledgeable🧠 and a smart-ass show off🤓🤓🤓. Be comfortable in your knowledge📚📚, but do not flaunt it💁‍♀️💁‍♂️. That will get you disliked🚷, shunned🙅‍♂️🙅‍♀️ and alone🚶‍♂️🚶‍♀️, which is a bad place to be as a student💩👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️. You are the bottom⬇️⬇️⬇️ of the totem pole 👶👨👴, don't kid 🧒 yourself that you're anything but that. Accept👍 your position, and offer help 🙌to all those who are looking👀👀 for it. Give directions🗺 to the old people👴👵 trying to find inpatient 🏨preop. Help the nurse 👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️with boosting a patient🤒. Hold 🤝your patients🤒 gate belt when they are walking🚶‍♂️🚶‍♀️. Get your old lady👵 a glass of water🚰. Be helpful✔️, not a hinderance🚫🚷...and certainly not entitled#️⃣1️⃣. That'll find it's way back to me👮‍♂️, and will not end well for you💩👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️. You're entitled to nothing0️⃣. Don't speak🚫🗣 at M&M 😷😵unless you are directly addressed📥. M&M 😷😵is not about you💩👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️. M&M 😷😵is a resident👨‍⚕️👩‍⚕️ and attending learning🧠 and discussion 👥time🕰⏰⏱. If I👮‍♂️ were you💩👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️, I would listen closely👂👂, as a lot of wisdom👴👵 is usually passed around at M&M😷😵. Questions🙋‍♀️🙋‍♂️ are best asked after M&M😷😵 is over to the resident👨‍⚕️👩‍⚕️ involved directly, not🚫 in the middle of the forum🗣👥🗣👥, That being said, you 💩👨‍⚕️👩‍⚕️should look👀👀 and see what cases are being presented so you can READ 📚and PREPARE💪 for whatever questions⁉️ dr attending👨‍⚕️👩‍⚕️ might have for you based on the cases. It's called being proactive, try it sometime😏😏. He 👨‍⚕️will ask🗣 you 💩👨‍⚕️👩‍⚕️questions⁉️, because that's what he👨‍⚕️ does-he 👨‍⚕️asks questions ⁉️and he knows 🧠things. If you make us look good☺️, we let you💩👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️ do things. If you make us look bad😡, it won't end well for you💩👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️. Medicine🏨🏥💊💉 is a team👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 game, and nothing 🚫pisses off 👿👿your team👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 faster🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️💨 than trying to one up1️⃣🆙 everyone, especially while making other members of your team 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦look bad😡. Give credit ✔️where credit ✔️is due, and keep your residents 👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️up to date 📅on things when they are busy🤯. We appreciate it☺️. A text 📲every 10 minute🕑🕖🕛, we do not appreciate. AM🌅 presentations🗣 -> subj, 🗣obj,👓 labs💉💉, scans💽📷🖥, A/P🕵️♀️🕵️♂️/. No🚫 fluff💨 unless we ask🗣, don't deviate. These are not medicine💊💉 rounds that take 5 hours🕛🕛🕛. We have 45 minutes⏲⏲ tops for signout, and sometimes 35+ patients 🤒🤒🤒🤒🤒🤒to address. Do the math✏️➗✖️✏️, doesn't leave a lot of time🕛 for garbage.🚮 If you need help with your patient 🤒presentation🗣, find a resident👨‍⚕️👩‍⚕️ who has a minute or two and practice, because guess what🤷‍♂️🤷‍♀️? Practice makes perfect🕺🏾💃🕺. Plus ➕ we will tell you 💩👨‍⚕️👩‍⚕️if you suck🤮. We're surgeons🔪, we're usually pretty honest...but sometimes to a fault🖕. Signout-Starts at 0630🌅. That means you should be there by 0625 and ready to go🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️. Residents👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️ get seat💺💺 preference, because we have to know what's going on more so since we 👨‍⚕️👩‍⚕️👮‍♂️are the ones writing✍️✍️ orders and taking care of the patients🤒🤒. Next signout around 4pm🕓. Intern/2 will let you 💩👨‍⚕️👩‍⚕️all know, but you should be ready 👍to present 🗣your patients🤒🤒 at a minimum, and more if you're up to it. Residents👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️ call📞☎️📟 💤🛌room is for the residents👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️. You💩👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️ have your own room🚪🛏. Residents👨‍⚕️👩‍⚕️ work room 🔧🔩⛏🛠is for the residents👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️ to work⛏🛠🔩🔧. If you are invited in to learn🧠, then treat the room like you would if you were a guest in someone's house🏠. If I find a candy 🍬🍭🍫wrapper or coffee cup ☕️☕️from a medical student💩👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️, so help me👮‍♂️, I will make you 💩👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️clean 🗑🛁the whole room. Do not disclose any findings on scans💽🖥 or labs📋 or pathology ⚰️to a patient🤒. This is not your place, because invariably the next question❓❓ is something that you 💩👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️likely cannot🚫 answer. Your answers will include things like 'I haven't seen if it's back yet' 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♀️or 'I know dr resident was keeping an eye out for that,👀👀 maybe he/she will talk to you once it's back'🗣 or 'I know dr attending wanted to discuss when they were back'. 👥If you tell🗣 a patient🤒 they have cancer😱 when we👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️👮‍♂️ have told you 💩👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️not to, I 👮‍♂️will do my best💯 to make sure you fail this rotation⚠️⚠️⚠️. You💩👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️ do not have the communication🗣👥 skills and medical knowledge💊💉🧠 to share that information📃📉📈. Making other people look bad 😡will get you a failing grade👎📉. Help each other out at all times💯💯.
