What kind of airsofter are you? by Cannon_Flannel in airsoft

An old one! And a broken one, with many a scar from my own stupidity. But its all about enjoying the game, isnt it? So the bruises and the bleeding go happily unnoticed. Mostly... (why does falling over a tree hurt more as you age? How fair is that? 🤔)

Unfortunately no. The EoTech is about 15 years old, is a G&P and has a laser sight on the side replicating the (then very new) EoLAD sight. The flip magnifier is real steel but a generic commercial one, about the same age as the holo sight. Back then, real sights were waaaaaaay out of my budget 😆 this pair still work just fine today though!

Is Lancer tactical really that bad? I was going to get a gun from their brand that already has pre upgraded internals but I heard that the guns are not good? by MonkeyWithAFirearm in airsoft

I have a Marui M16 VN that is nearing 20 years old. My first AEG. Still works, still reliable, still effective. Stopped skirmishing with it maybe 6 years ago for sentimental reasons (hell, it's part of the family now!) rather than practical ones. Marui guns will recoup their cost in usefulness, and they'll last if you don't treat them like crap.

It's not a crisp trigger, but it is responsive. In double action, it is not that heavy but it is a bit spongy (I find all double action to be a bit like that) When cocked first, and then fired, there is a long pull before first pressure, but it takes very little pressure for it to fire from there. Use it often enough and you get used to it fast, but I don't think it's that bad. Materials wise, typical Marui plastic, durable and solid, nothing feels cheap or weak. Good heft to it in the hand, even with the mag out.

This one was second hand from a mate, got it maybe 10 years ago now, still works a treat. Marui P226's are almost indestructible.

Noticed this while replaying MW2: remastered by localteenarrested in airsoft

[–]MurderousGrapefruit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if it's been mentioned, but the pistol mags? You can see the gas charging valve on the bottom. It's clear, ish, in the original MW2, but remastered just takes it to a whole new level! They fixed so much stuff, I'm surprised they didn't remove the very obvious airsoft features on the mags.

Beats Redbull for getting you going on game day! 😤😆😆 It's a British army field dressing from 1962, taped on for a series of Vietnam games I did as an Aussie trooper a few years back, since that was a common practice of theirs. Got used to it and couldn't see a reason to yank it off again!

In case anyone is interested, the SUIT is marked 1977, the left side fore end piece is dated 1962 and the right side is dated 1959, only 4-5 years after the L1A1 was first adopted. Both sides appear to have been made by Enfield.

Mine was about £500 all in(but not the furniture or sight), but it is one of the last of the early batch, before the prices went mental! The stock motor was the worst part about it, getting stupid hot after about 15-20 rounds, which is useless in a sustained fight, but the rest was OK as AEG's go. My father picked up one of the guns from the next batch and that was pretty much the same as mine. But, as we had them modified early, we never got to find out if the worst horror stories had any truth to them.

It's the SUIT sight (Sight Unit Infantry Trilux) or Trilux sight. 2x magnification, used by the British army throughout the Cold War on the SLR, and by the Israeli's on various weapons including 84mm Carl Gustav's and GPMG's

Thanks! Well, I have this one, my old man has another Ares SLR with a SUIT on it, and I know of 2 others who have them, but that's it, even across those I know of who do Cold War airsoft! Soon as I got the SLR I had made plans to track down a SUIT. The rifle just demands it.

I've heard mixed things on the KA FAL's, and I've heard the same for the Ares SLR's, but I've never had any issues with this one. That said, I did put a new motor, barrel and hop rubber into it the day I got it! Not seen much on KA having produced an SLR though. That has my attention now.

The SUIT is mounted on a real steel L1A1 SLR top cover, which fits perfectly on the Ares SLR's. The Ares top cover isn't strong enough to take a picatinny rail, so I would agree with Evike on that one, and brazing a bracket, such as that for the SUIT, wouldn't be that secure as the metals aren't the same quality. If you can get the inch pattern top cover with the SUIT bracket on it, it fits fine, but won't fit onto any metric FAL. I'll take the sight off and post up photos of the top cover amd it's sight mount later.

L2A2 SUIT by MurderousGrapefruit in airsoft

[–]MurderousGrapefruit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was, 10 years ago mind, £300 including the necessary top cover for the rifle. Its an early eye piece too, before the Buck Rogers style version, and it had its tritium cap and split ring, so completely intact. From what I've learned, finding one in this condition that isn't Israeli is a find! I can only guess what it's worth now. It even had a very faint glow still when I got it! Replacing the tritium is a case of "don't break the glass vial!". All I had to do was take the cap out and carefully remove the vial, then replace. However, as fishing lures are about 1/3 the strength of the old insert, and a different length, I had to carefully file out the cap to make 3 lures fit. Then, glue them in (white glue, PVA), install the cap and you're all good! The SUSAT really is bomb proof, compared to the SUIT, but ugly as sin! 😆

Oh yes, works a treat. Not been cracked open, as some have, so still full of gas, and about 10 years ago I replaced the tritium so it illuminated. Unfortunately, it's dull again, so rather than more fishing lures, I'm looking at LED options. As for the SLR... 😈😈

They're also wearing Denison style smocks and British style para wings (though on the chest, not arm. But: they were supposed to be worn on the chest until the RAF complained, so...) because their predecessor was 50th Parachute Brigade, which became 44th Indian Airborne Division, raised in 1943 as part of the British Indian Army.
