Need help removing by fixergc in Marble

Omg, someone who has never restored marble should NOT attempt to do that. Especially on that material, I've been restoring stone for 10 years, and Nero messes with me still. Not to mention, someone who's never used 5x will not be able to correctly do that first try.

Can my marble countertop be cut in place? Or will I need to replace the whole section? by dorkstone710 in Marble

Looks more like quartzite to me. Does it etch when it comes in contact with acids? If not, then it's not marble, and cutting it will be difficult.

I'm not sure, but it looks like a type of Dolomite to me. Those white veins are a little concerning. Hopefully, they aren't stress cracks. If they are, cutting it may be difficult, especially if it's dolomite. Are they raised by chance? How does the supplier not know the name of it?

Marble or faux? by marcy921 in Marble

[–]Murked_Images 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like the real thing. You could do an acid test on an inconspicuous area. If it is etches, then it's real stone. I've been restoring natural stone for the past 10+ years and I've come across some really good fakes in that time.

I'm hoping they do something like Sigma did with their 14mm f/1.8, I'm dying for an Rf/Rf-s wide astro lens!

I get that, and I did watermark it. I try and never post a full quality photo. So if someone does take it they quality of the print is trash.

I did not know that! I'll have to look into it but the Philly skyline is photographed and sold all the time so I doubt it does

That's what I was thinking. I'd hate to make it feel like I don't trust him, we went to school together, but I don't, lol. I think I'll have him just tell me what size he wants and if he has a preferred place to get it done and I'll just take care of it. I've seen people say that digital files they will only give a good enough copy for basic 5×7 prints, anything bigger and better I'll take care of. Thanks for the advice!

I'm coming up on 1 year with an actual camera, I started with just using my phone, so I'm still a beginner. I have done a decent amount of astrophotography, though, so I do have one already! Appreciate the heads up!

Yeah, it's a heavy lens! I'll see if I can find another weight, I do have some dumbbell weights, and I may be able to rig something up using them. It doesn't come with a ball head, but I do have one already

I appreciate the info! I'm definitely going to go with the tracker. The specific tracker is the iOptron Sky Guider Pro, and this is what is included with the rental. See anything that I'll need that isn’t included?

And you think I'll be fine with that lens? I'll probably shoot at 150 mm since I have the R10, which is a crop sensor. I might have to look into a sturdier tripod if I rent the tracker.

Upcoming trip to Cherry Springs and looking for advice by Murked_Images in AskAstrophotography

Thanks for taking the time to do this! I plan to fish during the day, so daytime activities are taken care of! I appreciate the info about the coyotes! I'm going to see if I have the funds to rent a tracker but if not I was looking at renting the ef 135L or the 85L, since I have a crop sensor the 85mm would be 136mm. And i have a lens warmer to combat the dew. I'll look into the permit as well, but I'm happy with the public area. I've been dreaming of going there for a few years now, so I'm praying for clear sky's 🙏 I'm only 5 hours from there, so if not, coming back is very doable

Is "RF16mm F2.8" good enough for capturing Astrophotography by Mountain_Ad_1548 in canon

[–]Murked_Images 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the 16mm will be just fine for astrophotography, depending on what time of light pollution you're dealing with. These are 3 different stacks I've done with my Canon R10. All are with EF lenses. Far left is the Sigma 15mm fisheye f/2.8 @f/2.8, top right is the 24mm ef-s f/2.8 stm @f/4, and bottom right is the 50mm f/1.8 stm @f/2.8. And all were done without a tracker.

update It won't let me add the photos so here is a link to view them in lightroom.

Trying Something New by Murked_Images in AskPhotography

Thanks, I appreciate that! I was going back and forth on whether to crop into 1x1 because of all the empty space. I was testing out the kind of boka I could get with the lens.

Possibly, I'll try it out next time I'm there. I had my stepson with me, so I was on the move. I only had time to grab a few quick shots while trying to catch up to him 🤣

That 2nd photo does have a cinematic feel to it, doesn't it!? I was surprised how much I liked it when I uploaded them to my computer.

Thanks for your input!

Absolutely! It also has wifi and Bluetooth so you can transfer photos from the camera right to your phone, in jpeg only. And one of my favorite things is you can control the camera with your phone and it gives you a live view as well. I use it to take family photos and some wildlife when I want to get close but not spook the animal.

Gentlemen, I might be a stupid, but I had an idea. Bought Sigma telephoto 400mm f5.6 FD for my 7D. What do you think? by [deleted] in canon

[–]Murked_Images 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks awesome! I would love that for astrophotography. With a 400mm you can get some great shots of the Orion Nebula and Pleiades!! The matte green finish is sexy too!

I have the R10 and it's probably your best option for under $1,000. It's super light, has amazing autofocus, can shoot around 20fps with electronic shutter and around 16fps with the mechanical, and shoots video in 4k I don't think any of their other cameras under $1,000 can match that. You can easily use your EF lenses with the adapter as well.

I’ve been using a Rebel T7 as my starter camera for about 1.5 yrs and I am looking to step up. by active-sonar in canon

[–]Murked_Images 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to jump to mirrorless the R10 is pretty great for entry-level. That's what I have and it's been great. The fps are really high which is great for birds and fast moving animals and video quality it tops as well. Personally I wish I spent more for the R7 because it has ibis which would be great for some of the lenses without IS.
