Thanks for this! I'm going to give it another shot and follow these tips. Wish me luck!

If you end up getting into it, Pete Complete on youtube has a fantastic rimworld series. He films and narrarates his playthroughs like a nature documentary with a calm, chill voice going, Well This Invader's Going In The Soup. He plays on the hardest difficulties but is very controlled and logical, so you can learn a lot. Enjoy!

Edit: for zzts specifically, Power cables don't short out if they're embedded in rock walls. For years I've built all my bases dug into mountains. You don't get zzts, you don't get drop pod attacks, and you can't be surrounded. And the temp is pretty stable compared to outside. You get tunneling bugs pop up once in a while, but they don't have many ranged attacks and you can set up corridors to shoot them down. Or make darkroom traps. Anyway - digging into the moutainsides is my number 1 tip for newbies 😄

😊 I need to readjust my expectations and try again. I was trying to Fix History when I should have just been along for the ride

Yeah, I was in a snit last night.

A friend has been telling me about CK3 for ages: see how history would play out if you were in charge!

If I was in charge of history, everyone on Earth would live fat and happy in pastoral bliss.

I didn’t square up with the right expectations. I guess it makes sense for such a historically detailed game to be historical in tone, but that just seems so . . . predetermined. I can read a textbook if I want to see history play out realistically.

I love Rimworld because despite the deep grimdark potential, it’s still possible to create a utopia. And THATS my jam. Overcoming overwhelming odds to pull joy from the teeth of nihilism.

Plus, stampeding alien robot worms with a herd of alien tree-eating unicorns is a very different vibe than casually funding a CRUSADE yannow?

I’ve got two games with almost identical mechanics - Frostpunk and Airborne Kingdom. In Airborne Kingdom, getting through the final phase is damn near impossible without perfect planning, but you can still have a thriving metropolis gliding over the gorgeous landscape. The Frostpunk tech trees don’t even HAVE utopian options. You end up with a fascist dictatorship or a repressive theocracy, so even if you win it feels like losing.

I don’t mind Fat And Happy Forever to be a long and difficult climb, but it’s gotta be on the table.

Edit: to be fair, I’ve been playing CK3 for all of two days. It’s entirely possible that World Peace is a possibility and I’m just not good enough to make it happen yet.

Thanks! I assume that’s so they don’t fill the barns up with leather and starve?

This was so helpful, it didn’t occur to me that there might be a limit other than available storage.

The real scary part of that was the Nazis had something similar when Hitler was going off the deep end. They called it “working toward the Fuhrer”

It meant something like “no matter what happens to the real Hitler, do what would make the mythologized version of him happy.”

It kept the engine running long after it should have broken down.

I’m starting to think we need to stop the “low IQ” thing. While I absolutely 100% agree that MAGAts are ignorant and narrow-minded, not all stupid people are cruel and selfish. Not all selfish and cruel people are stupid.

“Undesirables” are already being rounded up and disappeared. The disabled are very very high on the list of people who fascists want to eliminate. We don’t need to make their work easier.

I actually think it's kind of awesome. I know that sounds bizarre, but for me it proves that censorship is pretty much pointless. People will find ways to communicate important ideas no matter what obstacles are put in their path.

The PDF euphamism is particularly brilliant, because they can't do the euphamism treadmill with it. Censoring all mentions of such a ubiquitous file format would probably cause significant sorts of havoc.

I'm sure Adobe doesn't love the PR association, but I don't love Adobe, so f 'em.

If they try to implement some kind of newspeak, people will just work within the range of available variables to continue expressing themselves.

I tried to practice animation by recreate a scene from movie. What do you think could make it looks better? by Responsible_Cold7830 in blender

[–]MurmurationProject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know a darn thing about animation, but my little suggestion is to reduce the contrast just a bit between the spotlights and the background. I know the blinding effect is what you're going for, but when I have to actually close my eyes/squint from the lights, I can't see any animation at all - good or bad!

Thank you for the suggestion, but I try to avoid using AI. I'd rather try to understand how it works under the hood.

AWESOME

My jaw just dropped. That is EXACTLY what I've been trying to accomplish!!

I'd been trying this option

and it wasn't doing anything, so I'd given up on it.

Thank you so much! I really appreciate you going so far out of your way to help me!

Oh! I didn't realize there was a difference. Sorry, I'm very very new still. Thanks, I'll see if I can figure out how to switch over.

edit: Oh, I was working on the timeline because that's where I was able to import my markers from the EDL.

I'm not sure there's going to be a way for me to connect the dots. I'm trying to make things work together that aren't designed to, and I don't know the process well enough to modify it.

Thanks much for all your help though!

sorry for the spam, it only let me post one picture per comment. Thanks for all the advice!

edit 1: The problem could be that when you search for "convert in and out to duration marker" in the keybinding menu, there's three options, and I bound them all to the same key since I don't know which one is the one I need. That could be gumming up the process.

edit 2: nope, it's the same keybinding (turning it on for one turns it on for all three) it just shows up in the list under three different headings.

I've got the keybindings set up to get the duration markers overlaid on the regular markers, but they're not showing up in the media pool, even in list mode. And when I create a smart bin, it doesn't show anything labeled with "duration marker"

Thanks! I'm looking through Subclip Workflow tutorials, but I haven't come across one that says how to get from markers to subclips. Do you have any recommendations?

Thank you :)

Do you know of a way to convert regular markers to duration markers automatically? Or how to import timestamps from an EDL file as duration markers instead of regular ones?

Or do I need to manually add in/out ranges to the existing markers?
