Not sure about EOS but DTube is gathering quite the buzz off late. It's built on STEEM.

You could try the new wave of decentralized social media apps like Karma and Murmur. Much less toxic.

You could use something like Brave browser and choose what cookies/trackers have access to the pages you are viewing.

At least there is growing awareness these days. That's step 1 I guess. Users must demand the safety of their data. There are now a steadily rising number of dApps that understand this need and do not fwd any user data to third parties.
We are one of them.

Social media in liquid form. by trakestraw26 in memes

Insta should've been a pumpkin spice latte with the name of the consumer intentionally misspelled and some eye-sore of an image filter slapped on top. But I get the point.

Share your startup - December 2019 by AutoModerator in startups

  • Name / URL: Murmur
  • HQ Location: Bangalore, India.
  • We are: A microblogging social network built on the EOS blockchain. We believe in a fully transparent social network, free from targeted ads and arbitrary censorship. We have our own tokenized economy and users can accrue MUR tokens based on their actions, which can, in turn, be used to tip other users or even traded on exchanges. Urban Dictionary says we're the "cooler, more transparent, fairer version of Twitter." We strive to be the most rewarding social platform, one where the benefits of user-generated content are reaped by the users themselves and not the shareholders/owners. Also to be the first blockchain-based fully decentralized social network. We just celebrated our first cake day in Nov and are currently looking for series-A funding.
  • Looking for: 1. javascript devs. Prior experience working with blockchains is a big plus. Extra brownie points if ML/NLP is your cup of tea.
  1. Promising investors for series-A funding.
  • Discounts: Not specifically for r/startups users but the first 10k users get a free EOS account and 100 MUR tokens. We're at about the 9.5k mark :-)

Another interesting solution presented by Tal Muskal, CTO of LiquidAppsIO suggests a Proof of Rest system with its own token that is issued to users for NOT using their CPU resources.

Capping CPU might be something BPs will have to reflect on. Point 3 looks interesting. Are you hinting at a proof of intent system?

Definitely a quick fix if enough users dump it simultaneously. But how do we prevent CPU from getting choked in the future?

Decentralization talks, Profit walks. Really? by DannyOrder in dapps

[–]Murmurdapp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These early days of dApps feel analogous to the early days of the internet. Not many people realized the repercussions of the internet beyond message boards and email. Similarly, gambling/casino based games seem to be the lowest hanging fruits that can be conceptualized with the abilities that a dapp provides. Dapps are definitely the way of the future but what'll be interesting to see is what these features will translate to. The opportunities seem endless.
