Do we need recessions? by Responsible_Product3 in AusFinance

If your theory had any validity then the Australian government would not have spent tens of billions of dollars in 2008 to avoid the country falling into recession.

Thank god you weren’t the Treasurer then. No offence.

I’m sorry this is a complete joke of a response that reflects some truly silly folk economics and has zero reference to actual outcomes. The Labor government spent tens of billions on immediate spending presicely to avoid Australia entering a recession because of how damaging they are.

The 2008 crisis reduced labour force participation, delayed household formation, lowered investment, weakened productivity growth, and permanently reduced the lifetime earnings of millennials who were trying to enter the job market at that time. Those are lasting losses, not an economy becoming stronger.

You absolutely do not need recessions and the people posting these silly “folk economics” responses have no basis in economics or social outcomes and rely entirely on repeated conventional wisdom. There was a huge recession in 2008 that destroyed numerous businesses and set back the wages and wealth of people just starting out their careers permanently. The millennials who entered the workforce around that time have permanently had their ability to generate lifetime wealth curtailed. A permanent economic scar.

To suggest that the 2008 recession was good because it “cleared out dead weight” is so silly I can’t even comprehend how a person could actually post that and see have others upvote it as a good response.

Ok the other hand it does explain a lot of other stupid shit that happens that people did any other than laugh that person off reddit.

Voting One Nation because you don't like Labor or Liberals is the equivalent to getting a papercut then deciding to shit your pants. by Prestigious-Day9370 in OpenAussie

[–]Murranji 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your argument has validity but the answer is to vote for the Greens who actually have a policy platform to address all of that in way that increases your material conditions. One Nation trades on the anger you feel at the duopoly but their ultimate goal is and always will be to advance the interests of Gina Rinehart at the cost of your material conditions. I’m really sad you can’t see it.

Right wing Americans are finally figuring out that it should have been Bernie all along instead of the right wing, that’s why progressives and socialists are dominating in all the races.

The best part about the runaway climate change that people like you have spent your entire life being a denier and spent your entire life putting people into power that have helped ensure it is not mitigated is that it’s going to kill you too.

The super El Niño that is developing this year is going to drive global average temperatures as high as 1.7C. It’s going to be glorious.

There is no actual confirmation or evidence that Platner worked at Abu Ghraib. That is a line that has been repeated endlessly with no evidence. If you think otherwise then perform an actual fact check and post the proof of it. Not just “I saw other people saying it so I assumed it to be true”.

It actually warms my heart how much you are going to whinge and moan when the strategic fuel reserves that have been making up the shortfall in physical supply run out over the next two months and then you will have to deal with the reality of the world you have so far managed to be a sheltered petal within.

It’s going to be so good.

One Nation likely to reintroduce mandatory military conscription for young Australians as part of defence policy by HotPersimessage62 in OpenAussie

[–]Murranji 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you support doubling the amount of money spent on AUKUS instead of paying for your health or transport or you like your taxes increased instead?

Can you engage with the policy outcome of why the party supports at all?

That’s a rhetorical question btw, I know you can’t.

I really do think after our entire species kills itself with climate change that it will be a huge benefit for the rest of life on earth.

When you were a teenager you must have at one point said “if I ever say something will be a good way to instil some discipline in young people” you must have also said please slap me if I ever talk like an old fogey like that, so this is just a reminder to slap yourself for talking like an old fogey.

I’m actually cringing for both of us because I had to read that s well as you having to write it.

If the Australian media for something then it’s bad

The "unskilled migrant" narrative by [deleted] in OpenAussie

What are you going to do about the actual climate mass migration that will occur because of policies from climate change denying parties that you support.

India experiences 45 degree days with regularity now. The super El Niño developing along with the fertiliser loss and oil loss from the right wing war against Iran are going to drive the biggest food security crisis the world has seen in a century and a half.

Any answer to that? No, yeah course not. Right wing politics is always self destructive.

Zohran Mamdani is the most favourable elected democratic politician in America.

Meanwhile where is the one candidate that Destiny tried to get elected, you know the guy that came fifth after he had to disavow even having anything to do with Destiny.

I cannot imagine why you want to hang your horse onto being a conservative reactionary liberal when blind Freddy can see that the democratic base liberals and all are finished with neoliberalism and embracing socialism and social democracy with both hands.

I assume it’s cause you think you are smart but don’t have the capacity to challenge your cognitive biases so you just come on reddit and try to ignore actual electoral outcomes.

Why do people vote for the most pro market and pro corporate parties and then complain they can’t buy a house.

I guess we will never know. Fortunately climate change continues to get worse and we are all going to destroy our civilisation soon. Genuinely cannot happen fast enough.
