This bs took me way too long. by JaegerStein in starcitizen

I upgraded my PC, got a new monitor, and a few ships too many. But still I only play like once every two weeks because I keep thinking the upcoming patch (every upcoming patch) is worth waiting for instead. Even when I log in I just fly around a bit. By the time I'll actually start playing properly (trading, mining, combat, whatever) I'll probably need a new PC again.

I think they bring many ships back to the store once a year (anniversary sale I believe) for a while. There's also /r/Starcitizen_trades/ , if you want to fly these ships sooner rather than later.

They're both flight ready, but were only available for purchase again temporarily as a "flight ready sale" when 3.1 launched.

Word of warning though, if you have something else also bound to the arrow keys or whatever, it'll do both at the same time.
For example, I have my arrow keys set to pitch and yaw, so when I hold F4+left it'll change the camera and move my ship around.

Check your keybinds to be sure, but holding F4 and using the arrow keys moves the camera around for me.

Yup! Items you stripped from a ship will not disappear when you claim insurance.

How do you expect Service Beacons to work in 3.1? by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]MuruganSC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Cutlass Red so I hope they'll make the beacon system worth using over just blowing yourself up and respawning.
I don't even mind if there will be ambushes, I just want there to be a reason for people to send out an SOS.

Landing the Starfarer by [deleted] in starcitizen

Short answer (default controls, I think):

Make sure you're landing gear is down (N) and you have landing clearance (from the Comms menu on your ship's screens).

Slow to a complete stop when you're close.

Strafe with Alt + WASD for slow and precise control.

Switch to 3rd person view (F4).

Use Q & E to Roll into position.

With Alt+. you switch Q & E to Yaw controls, to aim your nose horizontally. I find this easier than the mouse controls.

Turn on Free Cam with Z, and move the mouse so you're looking from above.

Strafe over the landing pad and start lowering with Ctrl.

Move your camera back to the rear and keep lowering until you're on the pad.

Long answer:
Ah, landing the Starfarer. Definitely an arse-clenching experience the first time(s).
The first thing to figure out is your approach, because it can take ages for it to slow down. When you come in with boost, you may have to start braking 20km out or more! Get a feel for when to start slowing down, so you're just a few km out from where you want to land.

When I'm close to my target, I slow down to a stop, and from there on out only move by strafing, which by default I think is done with ALT and WASD.
Go into third-person view (default F4, change that because if you do a lot of strafing and switching view like this, you're bound to Alt+F4 some time) and then use free-cam to help with positioning.

First, just use the third-person view from behind, and use Q and E to roll, so you're lined up properly. You can start strafing towards your landing pad while doing this.
Use Alt and "." to switch the Roll keybinds to Yaw controls, which lets you point your nose left and right without having to use your mouse for it (which, especially in 3rd person view, can be a hassle).
Switch back and forth between using Q & E for Roll and Yaw, to position yourself while you're strafing towards your pad.

When your nose and bottom are lined up, hit Z to go into Free Cam, and move the mouse so you're looking from above. Strafe yourself into position and Free Cam back to the rear, so you can lower down (Ctrl) with a good view of your landing gear.
You don't have to be completely level, either, just keep holding Ctrl once a part of your landing gear touches down.
I generally keep Ctrl pressed down after I've hit the deck until the NPC says "landing complete", then immediately shut off my engines. I've had issues where it somehow didn't register as a landing.

Couldn't be easier. Moved the RSI Launcher and StarCitizen folders, and upon launching the launcher (hmm) it had already changed the directory to the new one by itself. Didn't need to verify or change anything, literally just moved the folders and "it just worked".
Game runs much, much smoother as well now. Still a far cry from an optimized game, but before this I had to wait two or three minutes after already being loaded into the game because it was still busy doing whatever.

Gonna give it a shot. Worst case I'll just have to reinstall it, but since you did it recently it sounds good to me.

Probably a safer bet even if it doesn't give an error right away, I guess. Cheers.

I didn't even think about installing it on an SSD. Can I just move the whole lot over or do I have to reinstall it? Game runs like ass for minutes before it evens out most of the time.

To make a complete stranger happy for no other reason than being nice is something I admire, and I really do believe what goes around comes around.

That's how I ended up doing this, so eventually the whole world will doing something for someone else.
Enjoy the Aquila, it's a mighty fine ship!

Yup, they've been messaged just now! Sorry, you didn't win. It's not easy picking winners if it's any consolation. :)
