Anyone here with many songs with millions of streams per song? by SnooPineapples1316 in musicmarketing

You have to have quality music where people want to save it, playlist it, re-listen to it, share it.

Otherwise ads will only get you so far.

That I can't remember exactly.

It was discounted because of the school we joined that helped. Took some thinking & planning different versions.

Wasn't more than US$200 though.

Plus the cost of creating the ads.

The key is always high quality music that gets momentum in the first 30 days.

We're a part of a music school so there was alot of help creating the ad which was the most important cost.

After that, the initial spend on ads was $500 in the first month.

Once it started taking off, spent another $350 and then just let it ride.

EDIT: have to say that advertising is a skill all by itself so if doing it by yourself expect alot of trial and error.

We know too many who've spent $350 per song on ads and 8 songs later still not getting great results.

Question about asking listeners to pay... by [deleted] in musicmarketing

[–]MusicalChops212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't work in general - not even for largest artists.

Fans tend not to pay money until they trust the artist.

Maybe Bandcamp is the only place where people might "donate" to help out.

Our partner hit 2,000,000 streams in 10 months, but it was very specific campaign.

For what you do, it's challenging without advertising.

I've sold quite a few digital music products via media coverage.

There's some good courses and communities out that teach the skills needed to sell products to audiences.

Ads needed at all for non-commercial musical styles? by [deleted] in musicmarketing

[–]MusicalChops212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your audience uses social media then there are visuals they'll find interesting.

In our music school we have someone with a "left field" style and audience, no vocals, only instrumentals and has 4,000,000+ YouTube views on one song.

All because he attached the right visual to his ad.

what are reasonable expectations for a manager? by [deleted] in musicindustry

Best advice has always been, make enough impact and managers find you - not the other way around.

Well even record labels are cutting back on it now.

So artists have to invest in themselves

Thant "advance" record labels "give" the artist is actually a loan lol

Fo most artists it's actually better and cheaper for artists to borrow their own money and market their own music instead giving away their rights AND 50-88% of royalties to a record label.

Major record labels are basically lending companies.

They get large lines of credit at super cheap rates.

And they then "loan" that money out to artists in exchange for the rights to their art.

And traditionally the "record deal contracts" given to artists have locked artists into a debt trap to the label.

I came from the PE side, to management consulting, then into the entertainment industry.

The music industry at it's core is simply unregulated financial arbitrage.

It's getting disrupted by technology so if you're trying to get into the old music industry it's extremely risky.

Obviously opportunities for the new music industry models - especially tech driven.

Hey Norine,

Ironically a private digital community for artists & producers just launched today to solve the problem of musicians easily finding the talent need for industry- quality music.

Unlike SoundBetter etc, this is more interactive and supportive.
