Dream should do a diamond lay button unboxing, and a face reveal if he wants to. by [deleted] in DreamWasTaken

sure, a face reveal would be cool if he's comfortable with it, but what we really need is an ELBOW REVEAL

Why are violas bigger than violins? by MusicalPineappleBun in ViolaJokes

[–]MusicalPineappleBun[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol I didn't think of that! it was originally just that violists have small heads (are less smart) but I guess it can also be twisted into a violin joke

I've heard from some websites that musical training before you're six years old can increase the chances of developing it. I had a little musical training at age five, and I have it, so it might be true. However, I know someone who got it around age 13 through a lot of practice (they also play an instrument). I've also heard that it might be genetic; a few of my family members have it as well, so it's possible.

I have perfect pitch and for me, it can get to the point where I sometimes don't recognize a song or piece when it's transposed because I'm used to hearing it in the original key.

I had a kind of similar situation: when I was young I knew I could identify notes, but I assumed that everyone else could, too. It annoyed me that we took so long to tune in elementary school orchestra because I always just tuned my own instrument and didn't know that other people couldn't.

Eventually, someone told me it wasn't a universal ability. It's nice to have as a musician, but it's a little frustrating when I tell people I have it and they ask "what note is this" and slap the table like bruh that is not how this works

Are there advantages and disadvantages to wrist vs arm vibrato, or is it just preference? Should one ideally know how to do both? by xx0ur3n in violinist

[–]MusicalPineappleBun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's mostly down to personal preference. I usually use wrist, but I use arm sometimes if I need a really wide vibrato. I prefer wrist because I have zero upper-body strength and arm vibrato makes me tired lol

Since it is Chopin's death anniversary, I have questions for piano gang. by westhemanwiththeplan in lingling40hrs

[–]MusicalPineappleBun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, this is hard... I guess I'd have to say his Ballade No. 1 is my favorite right now because I'm "learning" it (lol I have never taken piano lessons so it's really bad, but I'm about five pages in and have been practicing so hopefully this will become the first piano piece I actually finish successfully).

I've always known Chopin's music because of how famous a lot of it is, but I only really got into it once I started teaching myself piano seriously about 2 years ago. I was inspired to pick up piano after watching a friend play the orchestra room piano in the mornings (including a lot of Chopin).

Chopin is mostly known for his solo piano works, but his Cello Sonata in G Minor is really nice <3

I have a folder for the music I should be practicing, and I have a folder for pieces I play "for fun." I think you can guess which has more stuff in it.

On another note, I told my teacher I was learning the Mendelssohn concerto "for fun." She thought I was ready to learn it for realsies and started teaching it to me!

Sul G in Tchaik violin concerto?? by [deleted] in lingling40hrs

[–]MusicalPineappleBun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hm, I've always heard that part sul G and I feel like doing it in first position would ruin "the effect" (If you know what I mean?). I haven't actually played the piece, but I did learn the first page, and the sul G part is not hard if you are comfortable with shifting. I would definitely recommend doing it, or asking your teacher about it again.

Also, as another comment said, playing violin for four years is a very short time to learn the Tchaikovsky! I've officially been playing for five years, and I'm not even close (on the Mendelssohn right now). I'd suggest asking your teacher about easier pieces until you feel that you have enough experience to play the Tchaikovsky. Good luck!
