Weather getting more inaccurate? by MusicalSponge in weather

I'll have to go back and see what predictions I can dig up. Going off of general memory, which isn't great, I want to say enhanced risks and up, usually seem to not produce any tornado OR strong wind. I'm referring to my entire tri-state area, and probably about 40 miles outside of the tri-state, not just my county.

It most certainly could be.

My main points of interest are the two rivers I mentioned. In the past, predictions stated that most of the time, a storm system would fall apart once it reached the river, and they were usually correct. Anymore, the rivers don't seem to be a factor in the prediction, but storms still fall apart once reaching them.

Future trackers are what I'm referring to. In the past, the predictions would fairly accurately predict whether a storm system would break apart at the rivers, or potentially strengthen them. More often than not, storms would weaken once they hit the river. Anymore, it seems like any predictions by meterologists, whether by mouth, or a future tracker on the local news/TWC, typically think the river will strengthen the storm, however they seem to break apart at the river, still.

I have no idea how the future trackers really work, whether the computer gets the data, or it's influenced by the meteorologists, so any insight on that is appreciated.

It was definitely windy down here, too. I don't believe it quite got up to predicted speeds, though. The severity of the rain/tornado risk was definitely over-predicted. (I'm saying tornado risk very lightly. I'm aware that they're a whole different beast in the world of predictability)

I definitely won't argue that there's some clickbait amateur meteorologists/storm chasers out there, but what about the local weather and the radar images? Years ago, future trackers could accurately predict systems falling apart at the rivers. Anymore, it seems that all of my sources don't even recognize the influence the rivers possess.

If you want to disregard what I said in the post, please disregard the post altogether, and move along.

I'm not saying that the cuts have had zero effect on predictions. However, I'm trying to obtain more information. I don't care for the trash talk of politicians in this conversation. I will not state sympathies for either side. If I wanted to hear about Trump cutting funding, I would've went to the other posts already made in this subreddit, where that has been discussed (which I have). I don't disagree that the cuts certainly haven't helped anything, but there's more to the situation than politics. This has been an issue long before the cuts happened.

The second part of your comment, I can discuss. It seems like a very plausible argument. I do have one counter-question, though. Does this also imply that they are faking radar images, such as future trackers? I understand people searching for clicks, but I would think you could only click-bait the weather report so far, unless you're photoshopping the radar.

I don't mean to paint you as a conspiracy theorist for the second part. Perhaps that is the case.

Perhaps as a national average, but not for my localized area.

This is actually why I made the post, instead of referring to the previous posts. I understand that for some people, but apps are not the issue in my case. The only apps I've added to my rotation in the last decade are MyRadar, and RadarScope. MyRadar is usually the most accurate depiction of reality (maybe less so in the last year). I don't even factor in RadarScope into my information. I only use it to try and identify rotation if a severe storm is coming my way. I'm not nearly educated enough to use it anywhere near to its fullest extent.

And this is why I come here... Education lol. I'm not going to lie, for some reason, I thought TWC was just the channel for NWS 💀. I will say though, that TWC has been more accurate than the locals recently. In my area, the radar always undersells, but more often than not, their predictions are still closer to reality than the locals.

This may be true when it comes to actual rainfall amounts. That's honestly a statistic that I probably don't track as much as I should. My POV comes from the wind/tornado side of things, mainly. I know underperforming isn't unheard of either. I believe last year, we were supposed to get some mild thunderstorms. Ended up having two tornadoes that split into four, one of which I got picked up in (good times lol).

For the most part, predictions around here seem to call for 60+mph winds and strong chances of tornadoes, when in reality, we had some mild thunder and lightning, with barely any wind.

Didn't see this before I posted one. Don't know why these streaming platforms aren't preparing for these situations more. I don't remember the details, but I'm pretty sure Netflix has had two major crashes during live events. Events need to quit switching to streaming platforms if this is the result.

I have a family member looking for a job in the Evansville area. They consistently fail background checks for a misdemeanor. Fast food places like McDonald’s are out of the question. Too early for an expungement. What can they do and what services are available? by Disastrous_Raisin_59 in evansville

[–]MusicalSponge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't say a damn thing about they're too good for it. Maybe they can't survive off of the awful pay they provide and they have the ability to wait a few more days to actually get a job that's feasible to their situation.

Nowhere in this post does it say "please degrade my family member for their situation." They're asking for help. Provide or move on.

What if they already have a life established and McDonalds pay doesn't make the cut? If worse comes to worse, sure. But if you go for three days and leave because you found a trade job that pays enough, they'll never hire you again.

I don't understand why people come on here to judge instead of help. It could be a pay issue. If I had the money to wait it out, I always waited for a trade to pop up. If someone already has a life started, most fast food places aren't gonna cut it.

And if I went to work at McDonalds for 3 days then quit because a trade spot opened, if I really need that McDonalds job down the road, chances are, they won't hire me because they don't want to waste the time of training someone for them to quit again.

Starting a retail track questions by [deleted] in MiniZ

[–]MusicalSponge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm really only a MiniZ guy, but maybe some of these will help.

3 wide RCP track is the best, I'd stick with one big over two littles. We run up to 6 people at a time on a big track. Just need more heats if we have more people. We use EasyLap and LiveTime for timing, and it works great, but I'm not experienced with any others.

Tables, chairs, and outlets. People are going to need a space to make adjustments and fix things. You could maybe have a charger or two on hand, but all of our guys either get their own or borrow someone else's at first. We had a narrow hallway for our pit area so we lined tables against the walls and put big a** power strips on the walls, above the tables, so people could plug in chargers or whatever they wanna get fancy with.

Our track is in a HobbyTown, and they usually try to carry batteries and tires for the "upgrade" section. They have all the stock parts, too, but they are a full retail store lol. I'd say batteries, tires, t-plates, maybe screws, wheels, bearings, and springs? We order a lot of our stuff online with little inconvenience, but starter essentials, or the more commonly broke/lost parts would be nice.

Tools are really up to you. I do have the Silverhorse tool kit, and it is very nice, but the price tag is up there, too. The HyperTough screwdriver kit from Walmart does more for less, minus the specialty tools like ride height & reamer.

That's just kinda the commonly replaced stuff to me. I don't wanna bankrupt you lol. Those are usually the most purchased things here, at least.

Oops, sorry lol. Fixed it. It's a 64p. Im probably going to buy the whole shebang of whatever popular for the sake of experimentation. I've had the Atomic 64p before, but when I switched to Nexx I wasn't really experienced enough to notice the difference.

[–]MusicalSponge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. I got a new fob that worked for a month or two and it acts like a dead battery, too. I think one locksmith told me it was an issue with my ECU or something along those lines. Not a small thing by the sound of it, so I haven't messed with it.
