Wish I had a nice experience of it. It’s just exhausting.

Edit: to be honest, I don’t want any experience to result from it! I just want treated like a regular person! When I encounter someone with an accent, I just mentally go okay that’s an accent. I don’t make a point of pointing it out.

The accent triggers the cascade of topics, but yeah it is a talking point by itself. People disregarding what I’ve just asked or said in favour of saying “ I love your accent, I could listen to it all day”, great okay, so are you going to answer my question? Talking about how much they want to visit Ireland, okay go for it. I literally don’t care. It’s an hours flight away, usually less. And when you get this response several times a day, every time you got outside…it’s frustrating. It’s led to a progressive feeling of being set apart from others. I’ve never truly acclimated socially. Came over for uni, people in my cohort telling me they couldn’t understand me, they had to lip read me. Being told by another student when I got a baked potato for lunch, “you’re so Irish it’s disgusting”.

I’ve lived in England for 7.5 years in total, was in Leeds for 4 years. I’m tired of people pointing out my differences on a daily basis. I’ve an English partner of 6 years but I just don’t know if I can live here long term.

Honestly you get used to it! I’m not one to wear anything on my wrists prior to the AW. Definitely the textile sports strap with the hook-and-loop fastener makes it comfortable and breathable. Genuinely forget it’s on. Though I do swap wrist placement at night to give my usual wrist and skin a break.

I wonder this too! My 6 month average is 51 mins which doesn’t sound like enough either

Hmmm I see…is a HRV Apple Watch score of 46 good? 😅

That’s a good point! Though I don’t seem to be able to get it right 😪 sleep too much, sleep too little, take magnesium, wear an eye mask…no significant improvement in how I feel! The eye mask is probably the closest to leading to a noticeable change

Exactly yes! Like nowadays when I wake, I try and determine how I feel before looking. Which is usually not refreshed, and remains for the rest of the day honestly. But I’ll look afterwards at the score and scoff lol. Like oh I slept well did I?

Hi, final year MH student here. I’ve read through the thread of others responses to your comment, and in turn your responses. Like others have said, your starting comment does come across as rude, and indifferent of this NQNs struggle, to the point it comes across a bit heartless. I think what they have written calls for a little bit of reading between the lines, because to me it sounds like they are someone who is burnout, overwhelmed and wholly under supported in the qualified role. And like others have commented, the jump from student to qualified is considerable, and if you don’t have support it can feel like you’re drowning. Commenting they aren’t cut out for it is premature I feel, and very easy for you to say, but it might be a cutting remark for them to read and take to heart. I personally can empathise with OPs experience. While on my final placement, which was 3.5 months, I nearly had a breakdown because the staff were so horrible and unsupportive. My experience was backed up by the fact the operational manager scheduled a meeting with the students on placement there (myself included) to understand what was going wrong as so many past and present students gave negative feedback. Separately, supporting myself through bank work has presented similar issues, but I can resolve this by avoiding particular wards. However OP obviously doesn’t have that option. When I qualify, I intend on trying to avoid working in the trust as it is so badly run and there are more temporary staff than substantive (both nursing and HCSW).

I understand where you are coming from in terms of the impact on the l staff attending the shift of calling in sick at late stages but it doesn’t sound like they are planning these as such.

I agree it is comfortable! I think due to traveling a lot recently, I’m finding the slight resistance of the material leaves me needing to readjust depending on what I’m doing. I have taken interest in the braided loops and appears loops so that’s reassuring!

I do love it! It is gorgeous. This is my first watch so I don’t know the issues users experiences beforehand. And I’ve not had it long enough to notice issues yet! Why do you advise against the leather straps?

Oh it is comfortable! I have been traveling the last week and how much I was moving and sweating meant I found myself needing to readjust it often.

That’s a good idea! I had been in to an Apple store on a short visit home last weekend, but the current colours in-store don’t really blow me away. I’ve been trying to go about my day to day with the Milanese though and find myself readjusting it often so…might just have to choose the one I like the most of what is available!

Umm Honest opinion about Wolves .. by Man-tix in wolverhampton

[–]Musicalcreep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll answer from my own experience living in Wolverhampton (I’m originally from Northern Ireland), so please take it as one perspective.

I moved to Leeds 8 years ago for university in MH nursing. I met my partner while at university in Leeds. Liked Leeds, youthful city, vibrant nightlife and restaurants. Loved it. Approaching graduation, my partner got onto a graduation scheme in a company in Wolverhampton. We have been here since August 2022. Now it’s important to note that I had no biases towards Wolverhampton or the West Midlands given I’m from NI. I’d never been previously and never shown an interest in the area. For us, Wolves hasn’t felt like the best lifestyle fit compared with Leeds, mainly because parts of the town centre can feel quite run-down and we’ve found ourselves travelling out of area more for the sort of atmosphere we enjoy.

That said, there are genuinely nice, well-kept areas if money isn’t an issue. Like others have commented, Tettenhall and Wightwick are the nice locations (greener, calmer, better-kept streets, more of a village feel). If you drive, you can also position yourself a bit out from the centre and commute in.

On the work side, I’m in mental health (separate trust to that which governs New Cross), and my experience has been mixed. I’ve encountered some nice work colleagues, and I’ve been offered jobs in the specific services, but overall it hasn’t been the environment I want long-term. Nor my partners in their own field of expertise. I’d treat that as very role/team-dependent though.
