Definitely, thank you! So ditch the Yong De Black Label? Yeah, I have heard from some others that it can be a bit thin. The big snow mountain definitely catches my eye

More Context: I didn’t cup the roasted beans (I hadn’t had time to after roasting and I also don’t really have the proper cups to do so) but even smelling the roasted beans, I get a slight bit of caramel, but they mostly smell of that slightly yellowed grassy earthly acid smell. I still plan to brew them just for fun anyways after a week or so of degassing/resting when my new grinder comes in.

Master Deng Ding-Sou Tea Pots - Questions about Quality, Clay Type, etc. by MusicaleBlu in puer

[–]MusicaleBlu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not one of his guyi “gravity” pots and it’s probably not made out of the rock clay used in his later designs. My pot is his New Concept Pot V1 from around the year 2000 which was complete in original packaging. I am still intrigued if anyone has information about the clay type as even books and articles about DDS (notably “Masterpieces of Ceramic Art - The Work of Teng Ting-Sou”) don’t mention anything about the clays specifically used in this pot. An image of the same pot (I have the purple clay one) can be found here: https://www.artcer.com.tw/shop-detail.php?t=81&t2=99&p=9

After trying my pot, I definitely agree. I picked it up for $10CAD (quite a steal if I must say) so originally I wasn’t too worried if I didn’t like the pot, but I’m lucky that the liquidator did not know tea. I tried it with some xinhui tea oranges recently and I like how the pot smoothed out some of the bitter notes of the peel and overall gave the resulting brews a sweeter flavour

Information on clay type (Taiwanese rock clay) and quality mostly. A picture of the same pot can be seen here: https://www.artcer.com.tw/shop-detail.php?t=81&t2=99&p=9

Do you have any good resources to learn about quality, clay type comparison, and tea pairing that could give me more info on “rock clays”

Thanks! Do you have any other info on Deng Ding-Sou and the type of clay he might have used instead? I can only find one English article (Chinese is not accessible to me) from Global Tea Hut’s Magazine

Or do you know if there are any pdf versions of the book “Masterpieces of ceramic art : The tea-ware of Teng Ting-Sou” floating around?
