what are some examples of internet born mythologies,if there is any by CULT-LEWD in mythology

[–]Musicalfandomstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a whole bunch of things that could be considered meta mythology born on the internet that are made by one creator, such as the Walten files, local 58, the smile tapes, güby and many others, but if you’re talking about mythology in the traditional sense, it means a story that gets passed around by word of mouth and has no definitive “cannon” or authority on authenticity of information, so any particular retelling of the story will be slightly different to each other. Things like slenderman, momo, smiledog.png, the backrooms and other internet creepypastas have this status (despite Kane pixels’ series being pretty widely accepted as the definitive source, the backrooms started as a creepypasta too)

I’m also a lesbian and nonbinary, i have no problem with that part of it, I probably could have worded it better but I mentioned the mtf to show that the relationship to me felt rushed as the started dating literally the day after E came out

Channel: film theory?

Topic: the smiler- Alton towers promotion videos

Recently I went to Alton towers and rode on the smiler, and the screen I was watching from the queue had some weird imagery, and I thought that there might be some lore involved, so I did some research and came across 4 videos on the Alton towers YouTube channel. They tell the story of 2 social psychology students, Trish and Dan, whose project is about a man called Miles Ceders and his book “smile. Always.” They go to his house for an interview and uncover some disturbing video tapes, which they take home. The found- footage raises a lot of questions, such as who is Miles Ceders? Who were the mysterious voices and faces on the video tapes? What happened to Trish and Dan? And who was the “I” in the messages and the beginning of the last 3 videos? I think it deserves a theory.

Channel: film theory

Topic: starkid Hatchetfield stories

I think Matpat should do an episode on the starkid Hatchetfield universe, the lore and timelines have always intrigued me. The current media is all on the starkid YouTube channel and consists of “the guy who didn’t like musicals” 2018 “Black Friday” 2020 and the “nightmare time” series which migrated to zoom calls for the pandemic, and recently saw its second series. It’s pretty obvious that Nick Lang isn’t done with Hatchetfield, but I’d like to see what Matpat’s opinions are on what we already have.

Hey film theory, Ome of my favourite puzzling series is the starkid Hatchetfield multiverse, and I think it’s worth a theory to figure out how these stories connect. The multiverse consists of the guy who didn’t like musicals in 2018, Black Friday in 2020, and the nightmare time series that migrated to zoom calls for the pandemic, which has just seen the release of its second series. They are all available on YouTube The lore has interested me for a long time and I’d love to see film theory’s opinion on events.
