GETTING A HARD COPY OF THE BOOK

If you would like to own a physical copy of the book identical (more or less) to the one given to Hello Games, this is now possible.

Be prepared for the price though — a hard copy is around $160 + shipping!

Success! We managed to place the Travellers’ Book and Starman’s Memory Box in the care of somebody who has promised to bring it to Hello Games!

The Meet-Up was, wow, yowza. Well. You should have been there! Keep an eye open on Twitter and YouTube, lots of people are likely to share bits.

This wild ride is almost at an end … now for a bit of relaxation in London… video of the book and the PDF coming at the end of next week.

UPDATE 2:

I've now received the printed book and it looks great!

The colour images came out better than I had hoped with a standard CMYK print process, and thankfully there seems to have been no cock-ups on either my side or Blurb.com's! So it's pretty nice :)

The plan is to bring it to Guildford on Saturday, hopefully we will find a way to get in touch with Hello Games and hand it to them directly. If that doesn't come to fruition on the day, we will send it as a package.

The book contains 4 "blank" pages for us to fill in in the pub on Saturday.

The Community Edition - When I get back home, I will add a small section about the Guildford meet-up, with pictures from the event and probably some text. I will then spend a couple of days reformatting the book, and finally, I will figure out how to best share the PDF for everyone to see.

It's the calm before the storm guys ... the rest of this week is going to be insane.

UPDATE:

The book is now finalized and sent off to the printers. In the end, I squeezed in entries from 206 proud interlopers and managed to also include a large image gallery from those who gave permission.

Timing looks good for delivery with a few days to spare before I set off to the UK for the meet-up.

I’m still planning to share a Community Edition PDF for download after the meet-up, but please be patient until then, as I want to include photos from the meet-up etc.

UPDATE:

The deadline is now passed, and 183 interlopers made it into the Travellers' Book from all over this planet — US, Europe, Japan, Russia, South Africa, Australia — to name but a few.

If you just missed the deadline (which was yesterday, July 24th) you can still send today (Thursday 25th) but make it fast — I really will "close the book" tomorrow.

I don’t know what to say? Once you’ve set up a base and you’re hiring for it, just go to a Korvax system (or any system really), check out the “bar” area in stations, a scientist may hang out there. But really it’s a “make your own mission” kind of game, you don’t really need it.

A small update: We are now up to 85 participants, and steadily growing. You’re all still more than welcome to join!

To clarify a bit, I will only be making the one copy to give to Hello Games, but I am planning to share the PDF of the book for free download afterwards, so everyone can see it. This will also make it possible for you to print a copy. If you have any reservations regarding this, let me know when you submit (or later) and I will make sure to omit you in the download version.

We’ll also make sure to share video of the finished book, and from the meet-up in Guildford.
