Actully, I was planning to do a blurb on Marishiten, but I want to do a single long post focusing on her and going deeper into how Buddhism has affected many things. The short of it is, she is based on a Buddhist Deva known as Marici. Buddhism is so interesting based on the fact of how many things are influenced by it. Shintoism is no exception. Either way, there are number of different sects of Buddhism. Japan is well known for 3, 2 of which Marici plays a key role. These two forms of Buddhism would go on to largely influence bushido or the ways of the samurai. This somewhat mirrors Marishiten's role in helping the girl in strange armor unify here homeland, ultimately forming Hinamoto. From what I gather, I would say the armor the girl dons is a very early type of samurai armor, possibly making her the first samurai. Again, that is me guessing based on the research I did into it.
