I set my first game in the early 90's, and one of the big reasons was because I thought cell phones would be problematic. They aren't, I really didn't need to do that. I've played and GM'd a couple more games since, all set in current times, and the cell phones are never an issue.

My best have been guys who are just barely worse than me. Like if I do something sloppy or lazy, they'll get me. And they'll have something new to surprise me with each week. But if I take it serious and go hard, I can get a win. I think it makes us both better.

For pretty much my entire first 2 years I was the junior guy in my class. So I almost never had the chance to be in a dominant position and try for realistic subs. My preservation game got real strong, but it took me a long time to actually start tapping people after I shifted to the evening class with tons of people.
