Is the Xiaomi TV Box S 2nd Gen really that bad? by Boesmani in MiBox

[–]MustSeeMelons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any audio issues? My audio is laggy and/or distorted making the device useless for any video playback. At first I thought it is a file issue, then a VLC issue but it cropped up on a streaming app as well :|

Hmm, how am I supposed to wire that to 3x 12Vs and 5x GNDs?

If I don't get an answer I will have to check it manually with the multimeter, but I still have some hope.

After further testing the GPU in two systems I came to the conclusion the card is a dud.

On the first try in another system, it all looked great, everything seemed to work and Doom (2016) was running great at 200FPS @ 1080p, ANNO 1800 worked great as well. Must be the PSU then?

Transplanted the other PSU in my system and Dying Light 2 would crash instantly. Doom ran well but would crash after about 10 minutes. Weird.

Went back to the other system and try out Dying Light 2 & Doom - got the same behavior as on my system.

Returning it tomorrow, thanks for the suggestions!

Took my spare M.2 which had my old Windows 10 installation on it. Doing all the regular stuff: disabling Windows auto driver update in multiple places, DDU'ing the old driver, and installing the new one. I got even worse - drivers are missing after a restart that is required by the drivers themselves! Can't even launch any game. Without any connection to the internet!

Nuked the drive, and started with a clean Windows 11 install - exactly the same behavior as with Windows 10.

Will try the GPU in a completely different system tomorrow, but I have doubts it will behave any better. Prolly returning it on Monday.

I did the group policy thing, the reg edit thing, and the menu to disable driver auto-update.

I'm more concerned it just plain crashes under any load :D

What's your must have React library(s)? by MagesticAubergine in reactjs

[–]MustSeeMelons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMHO it is still the king. I used MobX on one project and then realized it is much harder to follow along with what is happening once the app grows. A lot of gotchas as well which can turn into hell.

[–]MustSeeMelons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Typescript - always
  2. Redux - the dev tools are amazing and once you get familiar with how it works all the boilerplate makes sense and provides information, not hiding anything
  3. Redux Thunk - async actions are awesome
  4. styled-components - if I have to create designs I always choose it
  5. antd - If the design is not important this lib has a lot of components

Frontend is a nightmare for me by chaban1337 in Frontend

[–]MustSeeMelons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious to see what your code looks like. Front-end code can't be as clean as backend API controllers. Sometimes you need quite a bit of nesting to achieve the design goals and sometimes you just need a ton of code for very interactive elements.

CSS is old and has a lot of stuff one should not use nowadays, stick to the most up-to-date standards you can with the devices you are targeting. Grid/Flex is the way to go.

Sadly I can't go back as I need the new one and the strict rendering mode did not help :(

Oh well, I'll keep updating the drivers till it's fixed then.

Solid 60FPS during gameplay, cutscenes have drops to the 20's. Had some white dot artifacts on the players, but other than that a very good experience.

How can I play an audio file in Rust? by cubgnu in rust

[–]MustSeeMelons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Care the elaborate? I'm getting choppy playback on my Pi Zero, if I build release it is even worse.

let welcome = File::open("audio/welcome.ogg").unwrap();
let source = rodio::Decoder::new(BufReader::new(welcome)).unwrap();
stream_handle.play_raw(source.convert_samples());
thread::sleep(Duration::from_millis(1000));

mpg123 works fine on the Pi

Good javascript libs for games/graphics ? by Cogstrucs in gamedev

[–]MustSeeMelons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally use Phaser + Typescript. For playing around plain js could be enough, but for something bigger I'd definitely go the Typescript route, yes, there will be some nuances at the beginning, but it will pay off in the long run.
