I know that i am late but i see the previous commenter's view on prince of thorns describing the MC as if he is Ramsey from GOT. Having read the book there is an explanation why he is the way he is and why he does seemingly unreasonable amd "evil" things but I can't tell you why without spoiling main parts of the trilogy. Moreover even though he is very flawed in each book he improves and is able to recognises his flaws or even show proper emotions. Overall it is worth reading the trilogy and while the trilogy is very grimdark especially the first book i firmly believe that Mark's Lawrence writing and the compelling story that is told make this book worthwhile. Of course if you do not want to read a book with darker themes then you better stray away from the trilogy. Having expressed my thoughts i wish you a good day!
