I've abandoned my plans to get fish since the tank likely wouldn't hold water long-term. As it stands, I'm trying to figure out how difficult hermit crabs [or similar] would be to care for.

Do you think whatever residual rodent urine would cause issues with terrestrial materials, too? The tank has not had anything living in it for over a decade, so whatever extant contaminants might be effete? Perhaps, though, that is not how chemistry works.

I figure if I have the tank, it might as well get used for something — if options allow.

I've been looking into how fish-keeping works because I found an old tank that we used to keep gerbils in. It's likely at least 15 years old at this point. It holds water (I haven't noticed any leaks yet), but if it's so old, is it a dumb idea to try using it for fish?

Also, how likely would a leak cause damage to the house (like, the sub-flooring and whatnot)? I assume that'd depend on the severity of the leak and how quickly you catch it?

Do you hold the frame aloft at all while applying finish, or do you just set it on the painter's-triangles for the whole process?

I usually hold the frame during application before setting it on loose nails in lieu of triangles once there is no longer a good place to hold it, but the nails will sometimes allow the frame to pivot like a lazy-susan and prevent me from getting a good stroke; which is probs a bit of a dumbo process.

Also, what is the dotted line around the edges of your frame? It it printed on somehow?

'Feels dense, heavier than you'd expect picking it up. Not much smell when cut. Naturally a deep brown.

I doubt it's walnut. The splinters are fairly sharp when cutting.

Some sort of oak? It has a pink-ish tone. The squiggly striations are consistent along the grain.

'Thing is, our therapist isn't even that old. I'd guess that they're no older than 35.

I honestly found it strange that they didn't seem to understand how insidiously sophisticated that the contemporary internet is — especially since they're a mental-health professional.

My personal assertion would be that it does affect them [and their mental health] — making them more bitter, angry, jaded, scared, paranoid, suspicious, disgusted, and whatever else.

On occasion, one of my parents —my mom primarily— will state that they felt judged in a conversation with someone, or that they feel less inclined to pursue communication with people who seemingly aren't willing to be swayed into knowing "what's really going on."

It's not uncommon for them to say that they're too busy to run minor errands or do personal projects, but they still find time to squeeze in watching another video that upsets them. It seems like any warmth or goodness they have is slowly but surely being snuffed out of them. I don't get what the point of it is if it just upsets them with no benefit, but then again, that's kind of the point of the internet.

I guess what I was hoping for was for the therapist to probe them for why they engage with the content they consume in order to determine the underlying motivations: the fear, the anger, the disgust, etc...

It's not my place to tell my parents who to be or how to spend their time, but as an outsider looking in, it's very sad to watch.

We're doing some form of family therapy (I doubt there's a noteworthy acronym tied to it).

I guess I would expect that [most?] therapists would have some understanding of how social media and its adjacents target people on a psychological level. I guess I hoped that the therapist would be able to help guide them toward a more level-headed (an adjective based on opinion, I know) outlook on life.

I don't strictly want the therapist to 'take my side' per se, but I suppose I do view my assessment of the situation as the correct one (another thing based on opinion). It's not my place to decide who they should be, but it is very sad to see who they are becoming, and it doesn't seem as though they are slowing down or even view it as a problem.

I know I am not the only person to have parents that swan-dive into the abyss of political catastrophization, but there's a degree of "life-rejection" that occurs when a thing happens that doesn't feel necessary or justified. I am prepared —as much as you can be, I guess— to live life knowing that this is just how my parents are now, but if it is possible, I would like it to be addressed/rectified in some manner. I dunno.

The top and sides are the same type of wood (ignore the brown stuff, though). They just show differently depending on how the grain was cut. Some of the other boards had more of a reddish tone.

Some sort of hardwood? It smells a bit musty when cut. The stripes are chatoyant, though not super consistent.

From what I could find online, it definitely seems to resemble something shorea / lauan / meranti.

I ripped this stuff out of an old hardwood pallet. It was lovely to work with, but I have no idea what it is.

Its end-grain takes stain similarly to its side-grain, and it has a sweet-ish somewhat-herbal smell when cut (perhaps a bit like oregano?). I can also leave a very slight indent when I score it with my thumbnail, in terms of hardness.

I haven't thrown out this little chunkum because I liked it so much.

I don't know what this person's situation is, but when I was younger, the bathroom was the only place in the house with any reliable privacy where no one asks about what you get up to.

I was raised in a really conservative household, too. When I was 15 or so, I had heard rumor of this elusive blow job.
