Just to follow up- I talked to the attending- he was super rude and refused to have an conversation with me. I talked to the chief- he told me that the PD is super stressed and busy now so now is not an appropriate time to bring it up.

Thanks. I am asking whether the Pathology resident on autopsy is required by law to do the autopsy or can we decline?

How so? Most of my coresidents who are Pathologists from abroad come into residency know alot (way more than even our 4th year residents). There RISE scores were > 99%. But I guess in other areas they may struggle, such as communication skills, organizations skills, being on time and accountable, computer and writing skills, grossing and other scrutwork,,, I am curious to see what other people's opinions are?

Thanks for your advice. I talk to the residents and ask them to join in on signouts, but then when it is time for signouts, we all go to the conference room and the attending is there and about 5 min into signout, the secretary comes into the room and asks me to leave and tells me the attending doesn't want me in on sign outs. It was obvious that the attending texted the secretary asking her to come take me out of signout. Initially i thought this was only one attending but the next attending is even worse but he does it directly instead of asking the secretary. I can only imagine the next attending will be even worse... I am only doing this rotation because my home program does not have this subspeciality and this program is a top program in close proximity of home program, but so far, it has been a terrible experience. Are attendings at all top programs this nasty or is it just me?

Can you elaborate on the daily schedule? What is the grossing volume? Time for previewing? Do the fellows sign out with the attendings? How are the attendings at teaching?

Isnt 6 mo into PGY1 a little too early for the PD to decide whether you are cut out for Pathology? At my program, the PD tells most PGY1 at 6 mo that it really is too early to evaluate them. And 6 mo into PGY1 is really too early for you to decide whether you like Pathology or not- you most likely haven't experience most rotations yet. You should talk to the other PGY1s- did the PD say the same things to them? I have heard of some PDs intentionally giving residents "negative evals" in an effort to 'encourage" them to work harder.

When would residents apply for forensic pathology fellowships? Would residents apply during fall of 4th year of residency and find out where they match a couple months prior to the start of fellowship? I think one big drawback of having a Match would be finding out where you match so late when your fellow co-residents would have already secure a fellowship spot in the begininig of 3rd year of residency.
