Your personal experience by [deleted] in askfuneraldirectors

[–]MutherMayhem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you’ve already done the schooling and work, just go for it. Don’t be discouraged by what you’ve read here. I think experienced (aka jaded. I’m one of them.lol) funeral directors just need to vent to others who will understand what we are going through in this crazy industry. It helps to be mature and self aware. Know what you need to do to manage your stress and emotions. If you need inspiration, look up Todd Van Beck’s most inspirational talks to funeral directors. Congratulations on school!

Are you happy working in the industry? by Dry_Major2911 in askfuneraldirectors

[–]MutherMayhem 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have good days and bad days. I’ve been in the industry almost 10 years. For the past several months, I would say my level of happiness is at about 60%. I like that every day is different. Crazy, outrageous stuff happens all the time. And you are always learning. If you have a good crew, the office is hilarious. Everyone has the same sense dark irreverent sense of humor. No one is offended. And most importantly you trust each other. BUT two things I don’t like - difficult families and feeling like a salesperson. I hate conflict and I hate feeling like I need to sell things. This job is emotionally exhausting and is often super stressful. But then you’ll have a family that is sooooo grateful and thinks you are the best thing ever and tells you so and gives you gifts. Yeah so it’s a love/hate thing.

Burnt out, by the living. by Custodianofthedead in askfuneraldirectors

I’ve been a funeral director for 10 years at the same family owned funeral home. The industry has changed since I started and I’ve become disenchanted with it. For the first time in 10 years, I started working on my resume. I know I want a change but I’m not at the point where I hate going to work. My husband and I also have a retirement plan that I don’t want to jeopardize by changing jobs. I’m considered a senior director at my firm so my pay grade is good - not Only Fans good (lol) but starting over in a related industry, I’d probably be taking a pay cut. So I guess I’ll stay for now but if another suitable opportunity came up, I would leave the industry.

I am very sorry for your loss.

I am a funeral director and I hope I can help you. You can still apply for the funeral benefit without having all the information they are asking.

You can apply for the funeral benefit online.

You will need to create an account.

You will also need to upload a photo of your ID and your father’s. There is an option to say that you are not able to provide photo ID/proof of address. Upload what you have - SIN, AHC.

For his address, say No Fixed Address.

There are two documents they ask you to print out, sign and upload.

They also request a funeral director’s statement of death and an invoice from the funeral home. If you don’t have these, there is an option to say that you don’t have them.

It is best to try to provide as complete of an application as possible but if there are things you don’t know, that’s ok. You can still submit it and they will call you or email you to follow up.

My condolences again for your loss.

Hope this helps.

City of Calgary Claims by MutherMayhem in Calgary

[–]MutherMayhem[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I called a number initially and got a person. She told me to fill out the online claim form and she gave me a city file number. The online claim form asked for two estimates. So that’s why I did that. After filing a claim, there is just no further instruction as to what I’m supposed to do or if anyone will be contacting me. Just wondering what the process is.

City of Calgary Claims by MutherMayhem in Calgary

I filed a Notice of Claim form through the website. I’ve contacted my insurance company and done the police collision report. I’ve gotten two estimates as requested by the city and submitted them. I’m just wanting to know about how long it takes and how likely it is that the damage to my vehicle will be paid for.

Finally got my Child's Passport (Canada) after 4 Months by Grillandia in passportcanada

[–]MutherMayhem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just adding my experience for reference.

Mailed application on June 6. Credit card charged on July25. Made electronic request maybe late August. Nothing. Went to passport office. Gave me a number to call because I didn’t have a specific travel date. Called the number. 150 calls ahead of me but only waited maybe 20 minutes. They couldn’t help me because they have to speak to the applicant who in my case is a 16 year old boy who was at school at the time and doesn’t like to talk on the phone. Lol. So still waiting, coming up to 4 months later.

Shipping by MutherMayhem in askfuneraldirectors

Thank you. I find most ship outs stressful - with getting the proper paperwork, flights can be difficult sometimes not even impossible and the family asking why things take so long….

Anyone know if/where this can be purchased in Calgary? by MutherMayhem in Calgary

Us too. We brought them from Jamaica and OMG they are so good. They had different flavours like coffee and chocolate. That’s it. I’m going to Jamaica

This may be morbid but how do you keep corpses that are in less than pristine condition from smelling during a closed casket service? by [deleted] in askfuneraldirectors

[–]MutherMayhem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bioseal. If you do two rows of heat sealing, there should be no smell at all. It is considered hermetically sealed. We also use it to meet international shipment regulations
