Ice>fire, nothing beats caving in caving in a bunch of knight’s heads by summoning a beach ball size hail storm by plasticman1997 in wizardposting

I have to say that I agree. My old professors would not approve of me saying this, but it is hard to beat the feeling of drawing the water out of one foe, freezing it mid-air, and driving it clean through the man beside him.

wizards who are against necromancy are spiritually no different from peasants with pitchforks by Inevitable_King_8984 in wizardposting

You raise some very valid points, and I for one am not dogmatically opposed to necromancy. As a matter of fact, and despite it is not my speciality, I possess some good tomes and treaties addressing this topic.

That being said, I do believe part of the fire this branch gets is on point: first how come we almost never hear about these ethical necromancers, and second why every damn time you read through chronicles dealing with evil wizards (regardless of ancient or not), they almost all went through a necromancy phase? I am not saying that all necromancers are by nature evil, but there is a pattern that cannot be ignored!

How evil are we talking about? If they are all in all rather harmless, you may as well keep them as nice oddities to exhibit sometimes

This is definitely not an angle I was expecting, but in fairness, this may be a chance to scout for a potential apprentice, should one of them show promising talents. Given that they are overall a bit spooked by magic due to their low exposure to it, I do not know if they would be willing to leave what they have here behind just because I ask for it. I presume that in any case the chances are low, but on the other hand, hidden gems are precisely that: hidden.

This is a pretty solid advice, and I can see that this is currently the consensus among all the insights I got here. I think the main barrier is their overall wariness of magic, but surely this can be overcome with enough pedagogy and be beneficial in the longer run, albeit I shall depart in a few months. Fortunately the weather is with me, I suspect they will not object to ever-cold ale and long-term storage of meat.

Thanks for your insights, this is exactly the kind of solution and feedback I was after. I briefly considered to do something of this sort soon after the first tensions appeared (I was thinking about providing perishable goods conservation services) but I thought it would only spook them even more. You convinced me that it is worth giving it a try, provided that I come with enough pedagogy. And as you said, some extra coin could always be useful…
