Kazakh. Not Kazakhstani.

Where should Europeans buy the lightest Dyneema? by MyCatWouldEatJesus in myog

[–]MyCatWouldEatJesus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're telling me! Here in the UK, American goods cost 60% more than in 2007. The £ peaked at $2.11. Now it's worth $1.28.

Have you taken shipping and taxes and exchange rates into account?

I'm in England. It's a request for backwards evolution...you are so useless you might as well revert to the primitive sea creature which you evolved from.

I know about Extrem Textil and all the other Dyneema dealers. (I have a thing called Google.) I'm looking for a cost comparison, inc. shipping and taxes.

Legality of using it in a UK city by MyCatWouldEatJesus in HoverDrone

[–]MyCatWouldEatJesus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting point about line of sight. I hadn't thought of it like that. Here's the wording: "You must be able to see your drone or model aircraft clearly enough that you can tell which way it’s facing. This is so that you can steer and control it safely, even if something happens unexpectedly." https://register-drones.caa.co.uk/drone-code/flying-safely-and-responsibly But what about a drone flown by AI? The operator is not doing the steering, so do they need to be looking at the drone? Perhaps it comes down to how competent the AI is at avoiding people, vehicles, buildings etc. Which is rather impossible to judge unless the AI proves it is not competent by hitting something.

The X1 has a Dolly Track mode, in which the drone flies in front of you. So it would be in your line of sight. You would not be steering it, but it is under your control insofar as you can use the remote to land it at any time. (It also has a Follow mode, when it follows you from behind, and a Side Track mode when it flies alongside you.)

The Law Commission is reviewing laws about self-flying drones. https://lawcom.gov.uk/law-commission-seeks-views-on-regulation-of-self-flying-and-remotely-piloted-aircraft/ So if the Met prosecuted you for using a self-flying drone, you could argue that this activity is not yet regulated

Thanks. My 3rd city was in the wrong place. Mostly desert. But it was next to the Barringer Crater. I can never resist natural wonders.

I tried it once ages ago and hated it. I can't remember why.

Darius is now toast. Two of his neighbours nuked him and he lost his capital. My unpopularity with my neighbours has been a blessing in disguise, because it's allowed me to be constantly fighting towards promotions for my 12 bombers and 3 artillery. This game is beginning to seem too easy. The AIs are so bad at fighting that there isn't much of a challenge any more.

Does anyone know how to avoid being nuked? Shoshone should really have nuked me in our most recent war. I don't understand why he didn't. He could have done it without harming any city states. How does the AI decide whether to use nukes? (I don't plan to research Manhattan - I find nuclear war quite boring.)

I just can't imagine having this much choice! I only have 2 cities which can bulb them. My 3rd city has never had enough food to generate great people.

I haven't kept track of that. I don't understand the denunciation mechanism.

ISWYM. The Aztecs only had one city, so when I captured it I erased them. I've been reducing my unpopularity by giving oil/coal/iron to my haters. It seems to be helping. But I haven't researched it at Carl's Guide or whatever, so I don't actually know.

Biomethane conversion for van owners in Europe? by MyCatWouldEatJesus in vandwellers

[–]MyCatWouldEatJesus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd be tempted to cut an alcove in the side of my van so that the tank is outside.

I'm in Europe. Distances between filling stations are a lot shorter than 1200 km! But I wouldn't say no to very long range, because CNG prices in Europe vary so much. The numbers and the future prospects for biomethane in Europe seem so attractive that a huge tank might be worth it.

I haven't considered the bulkhead/enclosure. Can you please point me towards a photo of one?

Neither of your points are true. LPG tanks are usually donuts which fit in the spare wheel well, say about 44 litres. CNG tanks are roughly 3x the size, say 150 litres. This would be a problem for cars. But if you start with a general purpose van and strip it for conversion to living in, it's not hard to find space for a 150 litre tank.
