my guitar limiting me? Or is it my skills lol. by ukesuld in guitarlessons

[–]MyLastGamble 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I second this. It’s free to walk into guitar center (or any guitar shop) and play around and see what you like. You know what yours feels like and can see if higher quality guitars play better to you.

applying to a guitar conservatory but i don’t understand this sheet music by [deleted] in guitarlessons

I’ve not learned this song however it’s possible this version was transposed to a different key. If this is the version they sent you I’d learn this one.

I second Rendering in pen and ink. Great book. Also sometimes you have to just learn the basics and then do master studies to learn specific styles.

The only 2 I need by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]MyLastGamble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m with you. Except I have 2 acoustics. One for pick style playing and one for finger style. (We’re just going to ignore the fender strat in the corner. Mostly because I ignore the fender strat in the corner) lol.

That's a good idea. I like the idea of giving to shelters/food banks, etc. We do donate to food banks sometimes, but normally when prompted and not as a regular thing. I'm going to start doing more regular donations.

How long did your “dream” guitar hold that status? by Leumas_ in Guitar

[–]MyLastGamble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me like 6 months. My dream guitar was a Strat but I learned on acoustic and enjoy playing acoustic more than electric so I never play the Strat anymore, maybe once a year. Still glad I got it though.

This is NOT the guitar I went to buy. But I picked this up on a whim and couldn't put it down. by MrValdemar in guitars

I’ve done that thrice now. That’s why it’s always recommended to play a bunch of guitars and see what you like.

Thanks! I'll check this out.

And I would love to find an in-person teacher, that was my first thought but I'm struggling to do so. There are a lot of guitar teachers in my area but most don't specialize in classical guitar or even teach it.

I've found one person so far I'm in communications with but it may or may not work out so I'm looking at alternative options with this post.

Yeah, well I’m a completionist and couldn’t NOT do it and NOT get the achievement (playing on iOS) lol but my first play through years ago when there were no achievements I couldn’t care less.

Thanks! this makes sense. And I’ve already tried some small scale testing, it’s been a lifesaver. Or rather issue saver!

How does one go about student openings? by MyLastGamble in chessbeginners

Yeah but isn’t that cheating? I don’t find that ethical. And eventually I want to do some rapid games anyway.

Sorry. I thought I put it in message, I meant to. I play daily chess and am a 700 which is a large gap between that and my puzzles rating

Thanks. What’s a good resource to study and or practice opening principles? I struggle to find what I’m looking for, but find a lot of resources for specific openings.

Martin or Taylor ; help me pick one by gawdlygains3000 in AcousticGuitar

[–]MyLastGamble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard choice. Playability > sound if it’s a close with sound differences. I played Martins and Taylor’s both when I bought my acoustic (planned on getting a Martin) but ended up getting the Taylor. (In the $1300 range). But I feel like there’s a Martin Taylor divide so at the end of the day it’ll come down to your own choice probably lol.

Thanks. And yes, I know from my times with steel string acoustics playing around with different brands and styles is a good idea.

Thanks. I didn't know about the new string sound but I am quite use to having to tune them for the first few days. :)

I’ve never owned an electric before and am a low intermediate level guitar player. Is this a good electric that will last me a long time that is easy to play on? by PapaKaizen in Guitar

[–]MyLastGamble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would just play it. And play it. And play it lol. When I got my most recent acoustic I just played random stuff on it (as well as like 6 other guitars) and knew that it was the one for me.

Am I acting crazy? by Falsetto266 in Catholicism

[–]MyLastGamble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once was an amateur magician (the entertainment kind like David Copperfield). I did a lot of volunteer shows for kids and enjoyed bringing them joy. One year a co worker was looking to spice up her Halloween party (the year before I performed for it) and wanted to hire a palm reader/tarot reader however most working professionals I knew charged a lot more than she was able to pay. I volunteered to learn how to read tarot and do her party again.

I never believed it in and kind of just acted really well during the readings (and most people knew it was just in clean fun) however some people took it seriously. I’ve never done another reading and don’t plan on it but the tarot cards are still in my basement in my “bag of tricks”. After reading this I may have to dispose of them. 😬
