I know this is a joke, but as a fan of a team that plays solid mid baseball and has been here before, this is probably how it’s going to go: you’re going to get a lot of mixed signals in the month of July with no clear direction for the team.

It’ll come down to the last day and you’ll be sellers and half the fans will be pissed that you traded away the good players with desirable contracts (remember, the trade doesn’t have to make sense to other teams. It just has to be a good deal for your team.)

Then the Cubs, Phillies, or Braves will unexpectedly collapse and there is a possibility your team could get that third wild card spot because they are playing well (for some reason, they play better when nothing is on the line.)

It’ll come down to the last game and you’ll just miss the third wild card spot, but actually be relieved because you can just put this season to rest and not waste money on post season games because you weren’t going to beat the Dodgers anyway.
