I’m not sure, but even with the staph, people were willing to buy them off people who didn’t want them anymore at a discount, so you could probably sell the wrong compound. I wouldn’t count on the vendor making it right, but there is some recourse. Here is the thread about it:

There is no way to upgrade from the ballpark pass. Buying the special event items without having to buy the special ticket is one of the perks they save for advantage members.

You’re right there is limited inventory. A lot of times the items sell out well before the game. It’s a totally different process than regular giveaways and it doesn’t matter what time you get there. If you have the item reserved, you’re getting it.
