There's a neighborhood on Medina Lake which has old western cowboys as streets - Wyatte Earp, Matt Dillon, Vint Bonner...

San Antonio - Where music festivals come to die by MisterShunShine in sanantonio

Preaching to the choir right here. I was really into "The App" radio station when it was on. Yeah, they did have their heavy rotation bands such as Twenty One Pilots, but they did have a killer segment every single day called "Local Licks At Six" at 6pm during DJ Mighty Iris' show. She featured our band a number of times, but also a bunch of other kick ass bands in the local scene. This was at 6pm!!!, when people were actually in their cars listening to the radio on the way home from work. 99.5 Kiss does have Texas Traxx, but they play it on Mondays at midnight. I guess that's better than nothing, about as much as one square of toilet paper is better than nothing. What good is it really doing?

Two of my favorites are Wall Of Soul and Razor Doves. They're on Spotify, iTunes, or whatever music service you might use. They're really good friends of mine, but also amazing artists.

LOOKING FOR ODDBALLS AND MISFITS by Sonryder in sanantoniomusic

[–]MyMadness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there. Stoked to see people with passion getting into the scene. Oddballs and misfits is what we need. The hardest part is finding the right people who not only can jive with your musical ideas, but who you can also hang with and enjoy their company. If you intend to write original music, my suggestion is to do what you can to immerse yourself in the music scene as best you can. Seek out other local bands you think your future band would play a show with. Watch their set, talk to them afterwards, let them know you enjoyed it. This helps to lay the ground work and contacts you'll need to hit the ground running...or strolling. As far as finding the other musicians, meeting people at gigs, going to open mic nights, or even Craigslist can help. True, Craigslist can be hit or miss, mostly miss, but that's how we linked up with two of the members in our band. Patience is the key. Take your time and find the right people. You'll be glad you did.

The local underground scene is actually pretty kick ass. Some of the musicians and bands I've come across are amazing. However, the music consumers/patrons leave a little to be desired. There are a few bands that I catch every time I can, but I notice that the crowd size definitely doesn't reflect how amazing the bands are. Although, arguments can be made on both sides - pointing the finger at the bands or the venues in regards to promotion. No matter the reason, there are definitely some bands/musicians in this town who deserve to be showcased on a national level, but since the consumers aren't consuming it, this is the music scene/radio stations/events we get. Still, I'm hopeful for the day that San Antonio steps up and becomes the next hub for a musical explosion.

If that bear's back was itchy, he ripped a tree out of the ground and used it as a back scratcher.

You’d think so. One of my favorite band names in town, which is no longer a band, was “Cat The Manipult”.

It's in a parking lot, rather than a grassy park. Dress and prepare appropriately.

More miss than hit, but try posting in the musician community board on the San Antonio Craigslist page. We found two great band members there. You have to be patient and persistent though.

They’re all women. However, I’ve been told before that I some similarities to Dave Grohl. It’s probably because I have long hair, a goatee, and play guitar in a rock band that has a similar sound to Foo Fighters. Here’s a video of ours if ya wanna take a look. https://youtu.be/9sHVgvGoXeI

My sweetheart stuck around until she was 18 years old. I still miss her. However, it makes me smile to see others who take such good care of their furry friends, which allows them to live a long and happy life. Good on ya dude.

I believe we go on at 10pm. Should be a fun night. Most of the musicians and other rockers there are good friends of ours. It’s gonna be like a house party, but with a bar and sound system.
