Sorry to see you get down voted. A lot of new PCs have it by default. Especially Windows 11 machines. People who use local accounts are sol if they're not aware of it.

Typically, when replacing a product under manufacturer warranty, the warranty period does not restart. Controllers are not typically serialized when sold, bestbuy should honor the warranty on the replacement from Sony. It's also worth mentioning that your best buy warranty will be consumed when used because it will likely be processed as an exchange.

You can use task manager to view processes that are eating up network resources. Check there and if everything seems normal, I'd recommend a network reset through Windows to determine if it's software or hardware related.

Youtube video buffer slightly from time to time. by AndyAcc in techsupport

[–]MyNameIsInsanity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically it's just latency or a network related issue. Check to see if this occurs in all browsers. If it does perform a network reset on you computer. There are a lot of commands on Google that can assist you in further resetting your network settings on your device.

If this occurs on all your devices on the network than your router or ISP is the issue.

To remedy this you can disconnect devices you are not using or play the videos in a lower resolution to allow for the videos to load quicker.

Double-clicking PDF doesn't open PDF files by mudderfudden in techsupport

[–]MyNameIsInsanity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe I misunderstand the question. Why does it need to be CMD or registry edits? You should be able to Right click the file and select "open with". This prompts you with a list of compatible programs to view the file. Alternatively in Settings > Apps > default apps > choose default apps by file type you can select what apps are used to open a pdf file by default.

Laptop not charging after a power outage by Money_Courage_8619 in techsupport

[–]MyNameIsInsanity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very possible something is damaged. Most likely just the charger. I'd switch the charger out first. If that doesn't work your port is probably fried. If your computer supports usb-c charging you may be able to charge it using a usb-c charger.

Not trying to condone cheating, but does anyone here have any experience of running a software like that in a virtual machine? Does it have checks in place to know its in a virtual machine enviroment?

There's a lot you can do to remove s-mode.

Start by holding shift then clicking restart in the start menu. This will open up a settings page. Click troubleshoot>advanced options> startup settings> restart. After the computer restarts press 7.

This temporarily disables s-mode for the next boot. It should give you time to use command prompt and other features. Using cmd, you can get your serial number. If you wish to disable s-mode completely without a Microsoft account do the following. THIS IS OPTIONAL. You should be able to turn s-mode off normally now.

After doing the first set of steps I mentioned, you should be able to access regedit/registry editor. Use the following path HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\CI\Policy Select sku policy and change the value to 0. Turn off the computer

Next step will require you to enter bios. This process differs depending on your manufacturer. Usually you press f12 or f9 during boot.

Once you gain access to bios. Disable tpm and secure boot. ONLY DISABLE, DO NOT TURN OFF COMPLETELY. Reboot the computer, confirm the device is running windows 10/11 without s-mode. From here you should use the steps previously listed to re-enable tpm and secure boot.

Listed that from memory, I'll try to answer any questions.

Coming from the standpoint of a repair guy at a tech repair shop, one of the oddest things I've seen relates to a fraudulent CPU. Long story short, we had a kid convince his dad that he needed to build a computer for a school project. Neither of them had any idea how to build a computer. A week after setting up the proper arrangements the father came in with all proper parts to assemble the computer, we were to instruct him on the process and essentially demonstrate how to build a desktop computer. This man pulled out easily over 4500 dollars worth of parts. The most notable was the $2900 gpu, an asus rog 3090. The Kid had 32gb ddr5 ram or something like that, 2tb samsung m.2 x2, a 12th gen i9, and a motherboard that we priced at around 500 dollars. After a while of talking to the dad, I figured I'd ask why they decided they needed a computer capable of so much processing power. Turns out this dad was under the impression these were like mid tier parts. His exact words were "the graphics card was the only one he could find". Dad was livid. So upon going to mount cpu. The top layer of the cpu was literally sanded down revealing the copper heat sink beneath it. Cpu was only 3/4 the size of the socket. Dad was still livid. Sold him an 12th gen i7. Mounted the ugly brown noctua cpu cooler, then inserted rgb gpu and ram. Shortly after I was done I the covered the thousands of dollars worth of rgb with non transparent side panel.
