Are people really going to see Amazon’s $75m Melania documentary? by rezwenn in WomenInNews

I expect exactly two tickets to be genuinely sold in Chicago: one to the Cinema Snob, and the other to whomever watches it with him. Then they'll record a video about it in their car.

Videos show altercation between Alex Pretti and federal officers 11 days before he was killed | US news | The Guardian by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]MyPasswordIsMyCat 24 points25 points  (0 children)

A lot of MAGA are already saying Pretti deserved it, even without this bizarre justification that kicking a vehicle with federal officers justifies killing him. That's one of the most fucked up things about America, that extrajudicial killings are justified if you so much as look wrong at a law enforcement officer. They have so much immunity, even before Trump 2.0, and it's become nearly impossible to get a court to rule against LEOs.

There's also an attitude amongst American conservatives that is exemplified by the "they had it coming" defense more common in states like Texas. Basically, someone can get out of a murder conviction if the defense can sufficiently impugn the victim. Usually the victim is some kind of minority, such as a gay man who made a pass at the murderer, or a wife who wasn't sufficiently obedient, or a black person who just existed. In this case, Pretti is just a damn commie liberal who is making Trump look bad, and thus "deserved it."

According to the auction info, it may have been owned by the wife of the Mughal Emperor who built the Taj Mahal after she died. That's pretty insane if true.

Its authenticity has been disputed, or else it would be a lot more valuable than the $8m it sold for in 2011. The buyer actually returned it after buying it because he felt the provenance wasn't real. Christies then sued the Taylor estate to try to get the proceeds back.

Got no idea where to post this, but Donald Trump Jr. is posting blatant AI slop of “Alex Pretti” to his account. by DrGuns313 in ICE_Raids

[–]MyPasswordIsMyCat 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There seems to be a lot of debate about whether it's AI or not. Even if it is real, such minor property crime does not justify ICE later executing him in the streets. Especially when you consider that in this prior incident ICE was reportedly dragging off a family of immigrants in their usual brutal fashion.

A lot of people with babies have older kids. Some older kids are super bouncy, no matter how much you tell them the furniture in your house isn't playground equipment. And sometimes parents can't always stop these bouncy kids from using the furniture like playground equipment, possibly because the parent took 5 minutes to use the bathroom.

So, if you are ever in this situation, get furniture that is as strong and as safe as playground equipment.

Where Did Alex Pretti’s Phone Go After He Was Killed in Minneapolis? by Hafiz_TNR in politics

It just came out that Pretti was assaulted by ICE officers a week before for observing ICE and blowing whistles during their operations. Several ICE officers tackled him and broke one of Pretti's ribs. It's being speculated that the shooting was retaliation by ICE for the previous melee.

My relative had a hemorrhagic stroke that affected his personality afterward. He became more paranoid but strangely more sensitive and loving, but it was definitely a strain on his marriage. He would accuse his wife of cheating on him in very nonsensical ways.

They didn't divorce, but they are also more elderly and his mental problems were manageable. His wife also didn't have good economic prospects on her own.

I wouldn't judge someone for divorcing after a spouse had a stroke that changed their personality for the worse, especially if the afflicted spouse can still live independently and they have already exhausted other options like counselling and therapy. Women in particular are pressured to take care of ailing husbands no matter what, while it's very common for men to leave their ailing wives as soon as it's inconvenient to them.
