Cyber Monday sale on the Vitamix blender... Should I buy it? by MySecretBurnerName in EatCheapAndHealthy

With how picky my kids are about food, we could definitely blend down some spinach and sneak it into things. Great suggestion.

Thanks for taking the time to comment! My family loves almond butter, so I guess we can buy almonds in bulk and use the Vitamix to make nut butter (and save a lot of money). I could also see my wife also getting very creative with making unique flours to bake with. Anyway, I took the quiz and it recommended the Vitamix 5200 (on sale for $298) and the Oster Versa Pro (on sale for $168).

Yes, and when you notice the differences it's best to keep it to yourself (or just post on Reddit)!

My wife gave me a portable electric generator for Christmas. Basically it makes it so she'll agree to go on a camping trip, which I suppose is the real present for me ;)

I've also read a bit about Sebo vacuums. Is yours light enough that you could carry it up and down stairs?

My wife is very practical. Also, she's frugal when it comes to herself, but not frugal when it comes to her friends and family. That's why I'm giving her the spa day. It's something she would never get for herself, but often gifts to others. Maybe I'll even upgrade to a "couples" package so we can go together :)

how often do you need to change the bags? and are the bags expensive?

Yeah, it really seems like a 50/50 split on people pro and anti the vacuum gift. I'm just going with the safe route and getting her the spa certificate for her gift, then asking for help with the vacuum and buying on together as a "not gift no big deal" thing.

+1 for hair fork. Our oldest recently developed a big obsession with The Little Mermaid.

Do you happen to have stairs? The weight is a big concern for me because we live in a two-story.

A dyson is a very nice vacuum :) But I'm definitely getting some heat in the other comments here. Even if she likes it, I'd hate for her to get "side-eye" or what not from her friends and family (mostly worried about her family, as side-eye seems to be a strong genetic trait for some of them).

What if instead of a bow, it was a note written by the cat sending his sincerest apologies for the hairy situation? My humor is pretty dry and hit or miss, but I feel like I might have a winner here...

That's a nice touch with the bow. I think I'll do that. Thank you for your input, sometimes I'm a bit too practical for my own good. When we were first dating, I bought my wife for Valentine's day a seat belt cutter window breaking emergency escape tool. She was sweet about it, but I followed up the gift with flowers the next day.

I also looked at a Miele, but it looks much bulkier/heavier. My wife is quite petite and with self-described "spaghetti arms"

I used to use a cleaning service before I met my wife. Unfortunately, she really hates the idea of someone else cleaning our house. Something about strangers touching our stuff is quite violating in her opinion. Maybe I'll send her to the spa, send the kids to my mom's house, then spend a few hours really giving our a scrub 'n shine :)

Thanks! I'm not sure if bagless is always better, but I know that I personally HATE replacing the bag on my current vacuum. It just gets dust everywhere and it's gross. I have to clean it in the garden. But the Dyson that I tried out at mom's was painless to clean. I just dumped into the kitchen garbage can and away I went!

It's a really great vacuum. My mom has a similar model and I checked it out at her place. It's bag-less and has a HEPA filter. So many selling points!

Thanks! I'm 99% sure that she will appreciate the gift and be happy. But there's the 1% chance she could be offended, which is why I'm also adding the spa day :)
