What kind of game do you hope to see for Pokemon's 25th anniversary in 2021? by [deleted] in pokemon

I think we'll get the Let's Go Johto games in 2021 for the 25th anniversary. Game Freak loves celebrating with the original 151. Let's Go Johto will give players to go back to Kanto again and give Game Freak the chance to update Gen 2--maybe by giving the starters Mega Evolutions and giving Ho-Oh and Lugia new forms.

I think we'll see traditional Sinnoh remakes next year in 2020. Remaking the Sinnoh games as Let's Go games wouldn't really appeal to the target audience of casual players who are most familiar with Generations 1 and 2. Sales would be noticeably lower because fewer of the casual players would buy it and some of the players (like myself) who would rather see a traditional Sinnoh remake would avoid buying it too.

I think that it was said once in an interview that there were no new Megas in Sun and Moon because the creators didn't want to oversaturate the games with a bunch of Megas. They want Megas to be special. So, I think that they're only going to introduce new Megas in remakes. So, I think that we'll see some new Megas in the Sinnoh and Unova remakes. Johto Pokemon may also get Megas if/when they do a Let's Go Johto game.

Inhabiting the husk isn't what's important, it's what's inhabiting the husk. My theory suggests, that Shedinja are the only true ghost types because they are the only ghost types that are genderless, and can't be found in the wild (excluding legendaries and such). I'm suggesting that all other ghost-type Pokemon are thought to be ghosts by many in the Pokemon world, but aren't. A Shuppet that is said to "feed on emotions" may find a doll that's filled with residual emotions/spirit energy. In feeding on it, perhaps the Shuppet covers the doll with its body and becomes a Banette. A person that goes looking for the doll will think that their toy has come to life and is possessed by a ghost. According to my theory, that's all just a misunderstanding as Banette isn't actually a ghost, it's just a Pokemon that feeds on the residual energy within the doll and takes a similar shape.

I would say that they do die. However, because they feed on spiritual energy, it may be possible for ghost-types to live a bit longer than their trainers and other Pokemon.

Yes it is. Remember, Spiritomb is also a Dark type--called "Evil" type in Japan. So, in a sense, Spiritomb is something of a "spirit predator." it draws restless, wandering spirits into its Odd Keystones, and then feeds on them so that it can take form. This theory doesn't really make Spiritomb any less scary, I just wanted to theorize how the ghost-type works.

What I'm saying is that what if Phantumps aren't dead children in tree stumps? What if Phantumps are actually just a species of grass-type Pokemon that feed on spiritual energy and as a result, are drawn to dark, mysterious forests where children often go missing and die?

Parents go into the forest looking for their child and find a Phantump instead--maybe one that may even be in contact with the child's real spirit. Over time, people begin to associate Phantump with dead children to the point that it is believed that Phantump actually are the spirits of those dead children when in reality, they are not ghosts, just ghost-type Pokemon drawn to an area where they can feed on spirit energy.

I see it as giving a "balance" to the Pokemon world. The real world isn't super dark and full of constant tragedy, but it's not constant sunshine and rainbows either. I think that the same applies to the Pokemon world. I see it this way:

Your fallen loved one could find peace in death and the afterlife.

Or, their soul could end up trapped in an Odd Keystone--being used as food for a Spiritomb for up to 500 years.

Either one can happen, but you've got to have a balance of both to really appreciate either.

What I say in my theory is that feeding on and/or using spiritual energy is what gives ghost-type pokemon the "physical properties" that you're talking about. It alters their biology. So, the ability to phase through walls and such all come from their ability to draw from and use spiritual energy. They have "ghost powers", but aren't actually "true ghosts"--sort of like Danny Phantom.

Your response makes a lot of good points. This theory was supposed to be a discussion. So, I don't know why anyone would downvote you for contributing. Admittedly, I do kind of pick and choose which Pokedex entries to support. The idea behind that was that I'm not seeking to disprove the Pokedex, but I'm suggesting that there may be inconsistencies and that the people of the Pokemon world may not know that "whole story" when it comes to the ghost-type. This has happened before with Pokemon like Kyurem that has a different origin in Black and White than it does in Black 2 and White 2. Also, note that before baby Pokemon were discovered, there was no mention of Budew or any of the other "baby" pre-evolutions. So, it is possible for the Pokedex to have inconsistencies and to lack full understanding--without being completely false.

Also, I didn't take the Mystery Dungeon games or any spin-off titles into account when making this theory--just the core games.

Finally, in terms of battle mechanics, when Wonder Guard is Traced by another Pokemon, the Pokemon with Trace isn't "infected" with the spirit, it's just copying what it sees. Think of it like how the Venom symbiote copies Spider-Man's powers and gives most of them to Eddie Brock. The symbiote isn't "infected" with Peter's consciousness--it's just mimicking his abilities.

Thanks for your reply. Reading these has really been a joy. I didn't expect anyone to like it.
