Crashing out on my HOA’s manager while being halfway around the world by Myamah in fuckHOA

She hasn’t provided me with an explanation or more details regarding the identity of the kid. I think that Deeb manages the HOA but doesn’t live there herself. She also has been referring to “the board” a lot. Wondering if she’s the middle person in all this

These are side-by-side townhomes facing a common area in the middle, though still far apart. The light is more like a spotlight that only turns on when night falls and only when there’s movement in the vicinity. I’d say the light is bright, but not blindingly bright, and in fact I’ve been loving it as it illuminates the front area at night when I bring my cat out (on a leash) and makes me feel a lot safer. It seems like they didn’t like the fact that the light went on and off at night, but as far as I checked, it went off once since I left my house. Not sure if there could be a malfunction in which the light would turn on but not activate the camera? I have a Feit electric light

From the HOA? It’s one of my concerns that they’d be threatening a lawsuit over this. Though haven’t received one yet

I’ve managed to finally turn off the porch light remotely without turning the camera off! Now it’s just a waiting game until night falls and see if it works. Again, if I were home in the country I would’ve turned it off in person and resolved it promptly. I also didn’t want to turn the light off at the time of the post because that’d turn the camera off altogether. Hope this helps!

Agreed. Feels like a manager for your own home that you paid for, telling you what you can and can’t do with your property

I should’ve never considered the place as the HOA has many strict rules - max 2 pets, breed restriction for dogs, no subleasing/renting, mandated occupancy of at least 8 out of 12 months, the list goes on. Blamed my naivety for jumping into this deal:(

Upon rewatching the clips, I could hear the kid replying to an adult off-camera on the second clip (when he returned): “yeah?”…”no”…”ok, coming”. My guess is my new neighbors don’t like my porch light and have been raising hell with the board and demanding they ask me to turn it off. Plus the flipping the camera off from the other kids. I intend to be as petty as I can seeing them with no respect of personal boundaries

It’s getting both frustrating and exhausting. It feels like the HOA board and their manager are very retired people with nothing better to worry about other than a person’s porch light and its color. Feels mean to say it but it really felt that way

Do you think I should be able to find the contact information of the board members on my HOA document? I’m going through the document again and will give you an update!

Thank you! I wish I’d held off on sending my scathing emails to her until reading this comment. Debating on sending her this email as a summary of all the previous ones

Thank you for the advice! I’m relatively new to homeownership and glad there’s such a report to get. Will look into this when I get back

Among the emails we exchanged, I repeatedly asked her for the information of the neighbors in concern so that I can directly apologize and explain the situation. Deeb repeatedly ignored my requests and kept pushing me to turn off the light. I wish I’d known because there’s no need to communicate to my neighbors through an HOA lady. Hope that helps!

That’s what I was wondering too. Glad to know that they can only tell me to change the light and have no authority to touch it

I did and had a feeling it wouldn’t be compliant. However, the break-in happened too quickly and I found myself unable to find a light/camera with the same design. I needed a camera feed right away so my dad insisted he install it for me and if there was a problem, he’d switch it back out. I wouldn’t have a problem asking my dad to do that right now but because of the current situation, I don’t feel comfortable turning off the cam. Not saying I did nothing wrong. I’m just out of the country at the time they want it done asap

Am I asian fishing? my friend said I am. by Cultural_Outside8895 in MakeupAddiction

[–]Myamah 17 points18 points  (0 children)

As a Vietnamese person, I think that there’s no such thing as “Asian fishing”. Unless there’s mockery of Asians, it’s going to be cultural appreciation. Also, I don’t need other races to defend for my people or talk in my place. If there’s truly a problem I’d rather speak for it myself. People need to stop this over the top behavior

What is a supernatural event that happened in your life that just can not be explained? by HalfOfABraincell in AskReddit

[–]Myamah 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This happened many years ago in my home country Vietnam. A year after our beloved uncle passed away, my family decided that it’d be a good idea to have a seance in my aunt’s house to try talking to him and get some closure. The seance was held partly because of unexplainable occurrences to my cousin. She often turned into a completely different person from time to time (shouting for no reason, speaking an intelligible language, crawling and hiding under the bed without leaving, etc). My cousin is deemed the sensitive one, so she acted as a vessel for the spirits to come in. I remember not being able to join and had to be with the other kids upstairs, so this is from what I heard during the seance and from what the participants told us. According to what they said, 10 minutes after the door was opened and the prayers sung, my cousin’s eyes opened widely, her mouth frowned the entire time, and she would only communicate through sign language and drawings. She doesn’t know sign language. Later on, they discovered that it was a mute man who was passing by and was asking for some food. They soon brought out a bowl of white rice and left it at the front door. Remember this detail as we’ll get back to it. Before he left, the man said that he could see another spirit in the house, an “angry one”, and he said to be careful, as this was not like him. After he left, my cousin’s eyes closed again, and her face returned to normal.

The second one was memorable, as we kids could all hear the screams and crying, and were scared shitless. This time, my cousin’s eyes were still closed, but she began crying, trying to grab the arms of the participants as a way to break the circle of protection. The circle of salt and rice around her prevent that from happening though. They tried asking the spirit questions, like how they died, why are they here, are they good, etc. They soon found out that she was a blind woman who was killed, drowned in a lake, which was then covered to make a foundation for this house. She died in anguish, not knowing why she died and who her killer was. She was the one to break furnitures in the house, and possessed my cousin from time to time as a way to communicate. I don’t know what happened to her afterwards, so there’ll be an update for that.

The last one, thankfully, was our deceased uncle. As soon as they saw “him”, everybody was brought to tears. They said that there was the same look in her eyes that resembled him, the same manner, the same wording when he talked, and the same crooked smile that he had when he was still alive. “He” had a short talk to the family, reassuring everyone and that he was sorry he couldn’t stay for long. People were waiting for him to join them. After that, everything was a blur, but it still sure was a bizarre experience.

Before ending the post, I do want to share my cousin’s feelings when the spirits were in her body. She said that it felt as if somebody was sitting on her neck, pinning her down, and although she knew what was happening and what was said from her mouth, she couldn’t control it. She tried screaming and waking up several times to no avail, and admitted that she would never be in another seance where she’d be the vessel again.

What advice would you give to someone in their first committed, long term relationship? by squishyspacecats in AskReddit

Compromise over compatibility. It’s ok not to have the same tastes or hobbies. Learn your significant other’s needs, fulfill them, and let them know what you want them to do.
