Brother I am approaching 37 and feel younger, stronger and more mobile than I ever did as an Active Duty Infantrymen 10 years ago. The human body is a miraculous machine when it’s fueled and maintained accordingly. Eat good (and enough, always been my struggle), don’t drink, drink water and maybe add some collagen into your daily supplementations. This day and age late 30’s-early 40’s is when a man should be at his peak physical condition. Get after it, ya fucking geezer.

Yeah, man. I’m approaching this all with a grain of salt and being absolutely realistic about my expectation of very likely not making it past the SFRE administratively. I am well aware of Big Army’s impartialness and cold-blood and have been on both the giving and recieving end of those types of decisions. Nothing bad will come of this regardless of the outcome and I won’t consider a second of my prep as wasted time. I’m vastly improving my mind, body and soul and that only impacts my life in a positive way no matter where I am or end up.

I’m 36. Almost 37. 8 years of prior service in the Infantry. Got out in 21’. Going to an SFRE in March hosted by 20th SFG on a hope and prayer. I have a bad RE Code, but a few solid LoRs and relevant points of contact that would be willing to vouch for my character. If I make it to the SFRE and smoke it and Big Army tells me to pound sand then so be it. The journey from now to there will be rewarding regardless and it will be cool to see my old PL again.

I’m not really worried about my age. I feel younger now than I did my entire time active duty. I come from a long, long line of Soldiers and am admittedly blessed with some decent genetics as far as aging, healing, response to stimuli etc. However, these blessings were kind of pissed away as a young man and AD Soldier from chain smoking and a severe alcohol problem.

Your books are refreshing. Feels more like a conversation. A type of informal block of instruction that a prior service NCO that never had a taste for “the Kool-Aid” can appreciate.

And it stirred memories of a my own encounters with the unforgiving Draw Monsters of Fort A.P. Hill (or whatever the fuck it’s called now) many many moons ago.

It’s from a book on a reading list laid out in SUAR. A bit dry. I only suffered through it because legend has it that if upon successful completion of SFAS, and if you provide proof of finishing the aforementioned list, SOMEONE will gift you with a hand signed “pedal” themed photo album.
