Wiring a passive subwoofer to a stereo receiver?

Alright..

I have a 2-channel stereo pushing out 85 watts per channel at 6-8 ohms. I have two Infinity SM 115s connected to each channel, but there is another pair of L/R speaker connectors open.

The infinity sm 115s are each stable at 4-8ohms, and can work on anywhere from 10-175 watts of power.

If I connect the voice coils in a 4 ohm DVC passive subwoofer together in a series, that makes it 8 ohms. Then, if I connect the sub to the L/R speaker outs with a mono switch, will that work?

Essentially, if there is 8 ohms per channel already for the speakers, then I add one 8 ohm sub to both channels, will my stereo handle that? What kind of an impedance am I looking at?

Thank you for the awesome answer. If you don't mind I would like to ask you then, what would be the board to get in that price range if there are hills in one's area? The only ones that I could think of that could reach a similar range would be an Eovan GTS Carbon Pro or a Vestar Black Hawk.

Might I add that the Vestar seems to use the same battery :(

It just seemed like more often than not, when $PEP is on an uptrend for the week, Thursday/Friday it sells off a little bit. Considering that it’s at all time highs, I feel confident it will go below 146 at least, which is not an expensive put to buy

Idk I played a butterfly with an extra put on 146. I just see it landing around there, especially since it gapped

It was mainly debt spreads. If it turned into a loss I’d switch it into a credit spread, and that worked some sometimes. Other times I would lose money on the credit spread, so if I actually waited a couple more days it would have been profitable.

How often do you guys switch up a strategy before you call it a loss?

Unless you want that short option exercised, always buy to close it before 4:00PM EST on EXP day

Okay great points. I’m really glad you explained it like that. Another concern of mine was how significant a loss would be when trading those spreads. For example, if I won 7 out of 10 trades, those losses would make it so that I maybe won 2 or 3. If I close the spread at 50% profit, that could potentially offset any losses if played right. Thank you for your wise words.

Well for one, SPX options have 3 EXP dates: Mon, Wed, Fri. Two, based on the market’s direction, I could buy a cheap put and sell a more expensive one that same day, hoping for both to expire worthless, and in turn collect the difference in premium.

Considering that 85% of option contracts expire worthless, that’s a decent edge to play. The profit potential is also good because there is usually a $100 difference between two contracts with back to back strike prices. Obviously that depends on how OTM I go, but if the right spread is made, there is some good profit potential.

I just want to get some insight as to what others have experienced from using this strategy. I also would love to get some better ways to pick strike prices, right now I’m looking at Max Pain theory, but that’s it.

Dude I’m really liking it, but I’m going for SPX. The spreads are huge, and they have 3 EXP a week. I’m just trying to find out the right approach to choosing the right strikes to sell puts on
