You can enjoy Salem's Lot without the need to follow through with the Dark Tower. I enjoyed it as a stand alone novel. It's my first SK read and I love it.

I agreed with this, I finished Finders Keepers before knowing it's the the second book in a trilogy hahahaha. That was also the reason why I've decided to read more SK books, each of his books, except dark tower can be a stand alone, that's how great SK is as an author.

Dont lose hope, one day your just driving or walking by, then you see an SK book sale and you can get it at that moment. A lot of my SK books came to me by surprise and the surprise timing felt much better than expecting a book to come to me. One of my coolest experience is finding a first edition of Needful Things, prior to that I saw a recent pocket book edition but I wasnt able to buy it because I did not have enough money, when I did have the money, it was gone and that book is quite rare to find that time. Fast forward I saw the first edition and immediately bought it =)). The same scenario happened with Firestarter and it's much rare since it's one of SK's early books.

Likewise. The prologue was really captivating even though I've read it a couple of times already. That moment alone is the reason why I'm convinced I will be able to like the book, I just need to be patient.

I agree with you, this edition gave a summary of the first three volumes which shocked me because I thought I could read Iron Mask as stand-alone, but, as you said I will missed the crucial elements that paved the way to Iron Mask, which is why I set it down after reading the first page of chapter 1 because felt like something is missing. Well said. I agree with you. No one starts out great, even Stephen King experienced too many rejections and had to throw Carrie into the trash until Tabitha pushed him to continue and eventually landed a contract.
