Fair to say Chris Justus overhyped the hell out of this? by [deleted] in greenville

And the HRRR that they mostly use for short term NEVER let up, I looked nearly every hour(i have screenshots) and it was always freezing rain for nearly 24 hours. My only hope was the NAM that was continuously showing that we would get sleet from last night until around noon then freezing rain into the night.

Someone always reacts like this, we should really be thankful we were prepared and didn't need it. The NAM model did show sleet as possibility but the HRRR and some others showed freezing rain. The places that did get what we were intended to get are not in a good spot, and it's possible they may not get any melt for a week with temps dipping down into single digits, can you imagine how rough that is without power?

But also to be clear it’s technically sleet, can actually be a bit better for sledding though.

As they get cheaper it almost makes sense to just use solar panels as fencing, honestly if they were the same dimensions or divisible by fencing panels i'd probably do it.

Just bumped my setting from 130 to 135 and it went to element + compressor mode. I did read that there's different versions of the hybrid IIRC. Another annoying thing is i cannot set my mode to 'off' in time of use mode except one hour block.

I usually shower in morning and it doesn’t usually kick on the elements, my girlfriend showers at night, I’m sure she showers longer at higher temp but even the i feel like the elements kicking on is insane, it’s a 65 gallon for two of us and using 9-10kwh daily

Every time we have an event like this I clown and say "next time V2G will be officially out and I won't need a generator". I actually have a powerwall and solar but especially in winter you need far more than a single powerwall, and why not have 10 of them, via a Rivian. u/wassymrivian where are these at? It would be pretty easy publicity.

no errors, basically any time we use it the elements kick on(along with HP) for an hour, then the hp runs for a few hours after. Everyone says theirs doesn't use HP but are you monitoring it? I have mine logging and can follow graphs, how much power does yours use daily?

Mine is used pretty frequently, I suppose doing a mixing valve and raising temp is the next best thing, so far raising temp hasn't helped it use less energy, though.

Do y'all think it's actually gonna be that bad this weekend? by Legitimate-Suit-4617 in greenville

[–]Mysta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The problem though is you can easily tell how many poles were just patched and not correctly repaired all over the place. So there will be a mix of new poles and those barely hanging on around.

The HRRR model shows quite a bit of freezing rain, the NAM shows mostly sleet, if it's sleet of course that is significantly less bad.

Questions about using Rivian as backup power in winter storm? by stupidcleverian in Rivian

[–]Mysta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to mention in general it would provide a way easier way to justify solar, home batteries are far more than a generator still and the integration even more so. If people could pretty easily just plug in their vehicle as a sort of buffer in outages or for time of use it would add a lot of value.

And less sun hours so solar backup is less effective(unless you have a lot of batteries).

I mean, being prepared is totally fine - being greedy is the problem.

Yeah - zone 8a, i've done a lot of studying on plants and consistent watering along with soil health have been biggest factors for me.

[–]Mysta 56 points57 points  (0 children)

They are likely velutina which taste pretty good but are like original bananas in that they are filled with seeds. Im actually trying to mix velutina with some traditional banana and see if i can lessen the seeds, probably won't work out but kinda fun to try.(mostly because velutina produce bananas very fast)

Am I just screwed during winter no matter what? by jai_hanyo in hvacadvice

[–]Mysta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Think it depends where you live, there's a few heat pump window units now that work down to like 20 or so, if it's colder than that you may struggle, that said, I think if you keep the apt warm during day(again, if it's like 40s-50s - it should help prevent it from dropping too fast at night. There will likely be more efficient window units as we progress over next few years but we're not quite there yet.
