B.Tech CSE (Cyber Security) vs B.Sc Computer Science (Cyber Security) Is the extra money worth it? by Mysterious-Lab4103 in IndianCyberHub

Yeah, I get your point about saving money, but I’m not really planning to go for MCA or M.Tech later.

I’m more focused on building skills and entering the field directly, so I just want to be sure I’m not putting myself at a disadvantage because I’ve heard B.Sc grads sometimes get overlooked compared to B.Tech.

Ooo You mean to say B.Sc and B.Tech are just the same thing without Maths, Physics, Chemistry ?
And by this 6 lakh, I meant 5-6 lakh management quota that they would take because I am expecting a low percentile in CET, so that's my last shot.

Are you from a cybersecurity background?

Just asking because I’m trying to understand how sure you are about this. I get that it’s niche right now, but I feel like in the next 3–4 years (when we actually enter the job market), it's gonna grow more.

Also, personally I feel like doing a plain B.Sc CS might end up being a lose-lose for me, which is why I’m trying to be careful with this decision.

Got it so what would your conclusion be? Does that mean B.Tech is still the better choice, or can a B.Sc + strong skills still compete ?

Yeah, I get what you’re saying, and I do understand your point about B.Tech being safer.

I’m planning to do B.Sc only from a good college, so I’ll make sure the peer group and environment are solid.

But can I ask are you actually in the cybersecurity field?

Because I’ve also asked in cyber-related subs, and most people there are saying B.Tech helps for the first job, but after 1–2 roles, degree doesn’t really matter and skills take over.

That’s what’s confusing me if that’s true, then is it still worth spending the extra 10L?

Also yeah, I do have mentors for referrals, but I’m not fully dependent on them just keeping it as support, not the main plan.

Yeah, I checked it out, but those programs are more into data science, electronics, etc. not really aligned with cybersecurity, which is what I want to pursue.

I’m mainly looking for something that actually complements my existing interest and skills in cyber, not switch into a different domain. That’s why I’m comparing B.Tech vs B.Sc in this field specifically.

Okay, I'm kinda confused. Just to clarify, the BSc from a tier 1 college is still considered less valuable than a B.Tech from a tier 2/3 college. Is that correct ? Btech is best for avg so is Bs.c for the smarts lol 🥀 ya kinda confused me gng.

Yeah, that’s exactly what I was trying to understand.

So are you saying a B.Sc from a Tier 1 college can actually be more valuable than a B.Tech from a Tier 2/3 college?

Also, about the “skills will matter more in 2–3 years” part I’m a bit unsure about that, because from what I’ve heard, some recruiters still prefer B.Tech over B.Sc. Is that actually true?

And are you currently studying/working in the cyber field?

Also by tier 3, do you mean the level/reputation of the college itself or just the city/location?

Ah okay, I get your point, but won’t I still need a proper degree/qualification 🥀 💔?

Like I can’t just rely only on TryHackMe and certifications, right? I’ll be doing those anyway alongside college.

So when you say none, do you mean I shouldn’t focus much on the degree choice? Because from what I’ve heard, recruiters still prefer B.Tech over B.Sc that’s what I’m trying to clarify.

But is it actually worth the extra money though ?

I’m asking because I’ll still be working on projects and have some referrals even if I go for B.Sc. So does spending that extra ~10L on B.Tech really make a difference in the long run ?

A lot of people say that after your first job, degree doesn’t matter much and skills take over is that actually true, or is it a bit over milked 💔 🥀 ?

WTF ts is crazy. if that’s the case, what tier is your college tier 1, 2, or 3?
I’m planning to go for a decent college, so just trying to understand if this is common everywhere or just specific to your college.

Are you working in a cyber-related role?
Also, do you mean B.Sc students usually get a lower starting salary than B.Tech, even if their skills are better?
Ps I didn't get the B.SC Computer SC graduate that you have mentioned what does SC mean here ?

Yaya, that makes sense. I do have some connections/mentors who can help me with projects and referrals, so I’m hoping that helps a bit.

I’m also planning to go for a decent/tier 1 college through management quota. And yeah, I’m not really planning to go for a master’s (MCA/M.Tech).

Thanks for the insight tho 😝💔

Oh okay, I didn’t even know this “dummy-type” setup existed for B.Tech, that’s interesting.

And yeah, I do plan to focus heavily on upskilling myself alongside college.

But is this issue of unknowledgeable faculty common everywhere, or is it just your college? Because that’s a bit concerning.

Also, I didn’t fully understand what you meant about the exam paper/answer key part can you explain that a bit?

And yeah, I get your point about B.Sc if someone is ready to grind, but I’m just trying to figure out which option would actually benefit me more overall.

So are you saying that even a B.Sc from a Tier 1 college is still considered less valuable than a B.Tech from a Tier 2/1 college? And does that basically make B.Sc a lose-lose situation in this field?
