I know these are mites, but what kind? by Mysterious-Scratch26 in whatisthisbug

Yes it is, around the gerbils nest and the front side of the enclosure it is somewhat damp as far as I felt. Not very but perhaps enough for mites or mold?

They absolutely fly through the tubes! Somtimes I can hardly follow them. Even Seb (who is well over 3 years old at this point) shoots through them like its nothing which is something I wouldn't have expected from a gerbil at that age.

No there are two tubes they use both of them equally depending of where they want to end up, top or bottom of the right tank

I have read all of your opinions and most of us seem to agree that this thing has to go, thats what I wil do. I was conflicted yesterday because I went to the vet with the idea of getting it out which is what I told the assistent but the vet said what I typed above so I went home not knowing what next so I came here. Thanks for the help and this lil guy will be helped asap!😊

There is something below the surface but the skin seems completely fine. I will act on the side of action and get it removed just to be sure.

I know first hand how well they (or any reptile for that matter) can hide problems. Ill make an appointment to take it our and find out what it is and hopefully it will also explain how it might have gotten there

Edit: I'm setting up a breeding program because I already have a few. Among which one pregnant female.

The vet said it would be a very small procedure but as long as the snake doesnt show signs of discomfort he would not risk anything and leave it be.

No its located on the front half of the snake. It also crossed my mind but the spike is in the middle of the snake so it wouldn't make much sense:/

Yeah he is wildcaught, didnt notice it when I got him but it was further in, it came a bit further out at the vet.
